What courses did you study at third level?
Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering (level 7) at the Institute of Technology Tralee (ITT). Bachelor of Science (level 8) in Manufacturing Engineering (ITT). I am currently doing a masters of Engineering by research at the Institute of Technology Tralee.
When did you join Liebherr?
I joined Liebherr in June 2017 as a graduate student.
What attracted you to apply to the Liebherr Graduate Programme?
I applied to Liebherr due to the attraction of the engineering challenges involved in developing fully automatic cranes. The opportunity to be an automation engineer on this project was very exciting. There is no other company in Ireland with the opportunities to get so much hands-on experience of a fully automated system of this scale.
How have you progressed in your role since you joined Liebherr?
Every day I can see the real examples of how my work is implemented across the world. The projects I am part of, are driving the company’s future goals. I have been given great responsibilities and freedom to help achieve these goals. Liebherr are currently progressing my education by supporting me with my Masters of Engineering.
Describe a typical day for you?
I work on development of new projects in the automation aspect of the cranes. I also offer customer support to container terminals across the world. Every day is different and full of challenges from designing new automation systems, to remotely connecting and deploying software to cranes, to providing support to customers and Liebherr engineers in the field.
How would you describe Liebherr as an organisation?
Liebherr is a brilliant place to work and is very well respected both locally and internationally. Liebherr is becoming the leading specialist for automated solutions in the container terminals industry. The training program and hands on experience plus positive attitude can’t be matched anywhere else.
What is your favourite part of your job?
The atmosphere and working environment is very good within the company. My opinions are listened to and respected. In my development role, I am able to experiment and take calculated risks to find the best technical solutions for our automation goals and systems. The team within Liebherr are very strong and always easy to approach with questions or requests for help.
What motivates you?
My main motivation for working at Liebherr is the company’s success. A successful company means that we are doing our jobs right. This gives me a sense of pride in my work and motivates me further to develop new, more innovative designs. If the company is successful, then all employees are able to benefit from that success.
What is the minimum requirement to be shortlisted for the graduate programme?
There is a minimum requirement of a 2:1 Degree (Level 7 or 8 NFQ). If you hold a 2:2 in an Honours Degree and a 2:1 in a Postgraduate qualification (Level 9 NFQ) then your application will also be accepted.
