The Analysis & Simulation Engineer conducts advanced structural and mechanical analysis of off-highway mining trucks using any one or combination of the following: Finite Element (FE) analysis and fatigue analysis; Multi-body dynamic and system simulation and/or Data analytics.

Responsibilities

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 1:

  • Uses CAD to create FE models to perform linear static structural analysis including fatigue analysis or/and uses multi-body dynamic models of mining trucks to perform simulation for variety of working conditions.
  • Interprets analysis and simulation results and generates reports.
  • Works with testing engineers to assist with structural tests including proving Grounds and field testing
  • Post-process, analyzes and interprets relevant test data to utilize in analysis and design process.
  • Assist in creating custom tools using programming languages.
  • Works independently and as a team member or on ad hoc projects.

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 2:

  • All duties of A&S Engineer 1 plus;
  • Develops modeling techniques and creates models to perform advanced (e.g. non-linear, vibration, etc.) structural Final Element analysis or/and modifies models to perform multi-body simulation.
  • Compiles input data for fatigue analysis or/and multi-body models.
  • Makes recommendations or necessary changes to optimize truck structures.
  • Works with structural and mechanical engineers to assist in performing FE analysis or/and to supply data required for such analysis.
  • Compiles and analyzes engineering, test, and field failure data to assist establishing structural design requirements for newly designed or modified structures.

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 3:

  • All duties of A&S Engineer 2 plus;
  • Assists structural and mechanical engineers with FE and fatigue analyses or/and builds advanced multi-body models.
  • Establishes structural design requirements for truck components, contribute to specifications and product definitions.
  • Creates and validates analytical models.
  • Supports and guides junior A&S engineers and interns on relevant projects.
  • Interacts independently with vendors, suppliers, and industry experts.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally to assist in achieving optimal design solutions.
  • Plans projects including scope, schedule and provides cross-functional updates and reports.
  • Follows the relevant technical publications, participates in conferences and industry events.

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 4 (Senior):

  • All duties of A&S Engineer 3 plus;
  • Trains, mentors, and develops A&S engineers and other personnel on analysis and simulation best practices and provides technical information.
  • Plans multiple projects in parallel including resource allocation.
  • Advises engineers as a subject matter expert.
  • Identifies and validates new advanced tools and concepts in the field of structural durability or/and multi-body simulation.

Competencies

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 1:

  • A Master Science Degree or Master of Engineering Degree (M.S. / M.E.) or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of technical fundamentals of mechanical/structural engineering.
  • Basic skills in Finite Element Analysis and/or multi-body simulation CAE tools.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD and numerical analysis tools and software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering documents and drawings, technical procedures, standards, regulations.
  • Skills in applying advanced mathematical concepts to analyze and optimize complex mechanical structures (both dynamic and static) and solve various problems of structural mechanics.
  • Ability to manage, process, and analyze large sets of data.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) including VBA.
  • Programming skills.

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 2:

  • A Master Science Degree or Master of Engineering Degree (M.S./ M.E.) with 1 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) with 2 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment.
  • All of A&S Engineer 1 plus;
  • Knowledge and ability to apply stress based computational fatigue and fatigue of weldments including multiaxial fatigue under variable amplitude loading and/or multi-body vehicle simulation including flexible bodies.
  • Working knowledge of the following software: FEA (Creo Simulate, Ansys), fatigue (DesignLife, Simcenter Durability) and/or Simcenter Motion for multibody simulation.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional papers and reports
  • Ability to compile technical reports and present the results of projects

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 3:

  • A Master Science Degree or Master of Engineering Degree (M.S./ M.E.) with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) with 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment.
  • All of A&S Engineer 2 plus;
  • Knowledge and skills of applying advanced FEA concepts or/and advanced vehicle simulation
  • Ability to identify and design durability schedules or/and load events applicable for mining applications
  • Ability to build, troubleshoot, optimize, execute, and post-process of complex FE/Fatigue analyses or/and multi-body simulations
  • Skill in planning, managing, and directing resources and projects.
  • Ability to initialize and execute projects without prior subject experience and with minimal guidance
  • Ability to support design engineers, designers, and interns

Analysis & Simulation Engineer 4 (Senior):

  • A Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) with 4 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment or, a Master Science Degree or Master of Engineering Degree (M.S. / M.E.) with 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment or, a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) with 8 to 10 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment.
  • All of A&S Engineer 3 plus;
  • Knowledge of advanced modern methods of computational fatigue (including fracture mechanics and strain life methods) and/or advanced simulation methods (including tires, suspensions, hydraulics and electrical system)
  • Ability to create or adopt new methods and processes to enhance fatigue assessment of structural components and/or multi-body simulation
  • Ability to define and manage projects of various complexity from beginning to end.
  • Project planning skills for parallel projects
  • Excellent presentation and reporting skills
  • Ability to directly communicate and represent LME with the customers.
  • Ability and willingness to make decisions of consequence
  • Ability to mentor other engineers and interns.

Additional Requirements:

  • Is expected to travel nationally and internationally up to 20% to customer or supplier sites and for training purpose.
  • Ability to complete and maintain mine certifications or safety training such as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) hazard training.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, passport, and immigration documents if applicable.
