LTM 1160-5.2

The LTM 1160-5.2 delivers efficiency without compromising on performance. Its single-engine concept powers the crane’s superstructure from the undercarriage using a mechanical shaft. ECOmode and ECODrive technologies also help to reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%. However, no compromises are accepted when it comes to the lifting capacities and boom of the 5-axle crane – a range of boom configurations ensure it is very flexible in action, whilst the VarioBallast® system enables the crane to manage high lifting capacities with the large ballast radius and constricted sites with the small radius – no problem!

On-road driving


ECOmode minimises both fuel consumption and noise emissions when operating the crane superstructure. The crane operator sets the required working speed using the control lever. The crane control system calculates the perfect engine speed for the diesel engine.


Hillstart-Aid makes starting on gradients easier. Move off safely and easily without rolling backwards.


VarioBase makes the crane’s support system variable. It enables each outrigger to be extended to a different length. This enhances safety – particularly in constricted spaces. And what's more, the crane’s lifting capacities are significantly increased, particularly over the outriggers and depending on the configuration.

VarioBallast® (mechanical)

Mechanically slewing ballasting cylinders enable the ballast radius to be changed quickly to two different settings. The smaller radius is used in constricted conditions whilst the larger one is used if a higher lifting capacity is required. This significantly increases the crane’s flexibility.

Tandem hoist at night with minimal crane erection area:

A 110-year old railway bridge had to be replaced in Aarwangen in Switzerland. Swiss crane contractor Senn completed the job using its LTM 1160-5.2 and LTM 1130-5.1 mobile cranes. Both feature VarioBase and were set up on the narrow bridge without any problems for the night-time tandem hoists. Find out more
