Liebherr has opened a new production site in Pinghu, eastern China, on August 18, 2020. The newly founded Liebherr-Transportation Systems (China) Co., Ltd. develops, produces and services components and systems for rail transport in China and worldwide. The new company will thus strengthen the presence of Liebherr-Transportation Systems on the Chinese market, while at the same time further enhancing the reactivity and the extent of service performance for customers.

Pinghu (China), August 2020 – An opening ceremony on 18th of August in the City of Pinghu, Province of Zhejiang (China), marked the official launch of business acitvites of the newly founded Liebherr-Transportation Systems (China) Co., Ltd.. The new site will be a further important step in Liebherr’s goal of growing its abilities to develop, test and manufacture state-of-the-art railway equipment in China, and will serve both the Chinese domestic market and Asia.

Profound engineering competencies and on-site service support

In 2019, Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS has decided to invest in an additional China-based production site in Pinghu, with the aim of generating additional value for the local-based railway industry as well as for the international railway market. With a production and engineering facility covering approximately 11,700 m², Liebherr-Transportation Systems (China) will intensify its existing activities in the country by further offering its customers best quality and cost efficient railway products – for faster, safer, more environmentally friendly, and more comfortable railway travel.

Andreas Walter, Executive Director, Liebherr-Transportation Systems (China) Co., Ltd. stated: ”Our new factory represents an important base for our air-conditioning technology and hydraulic actuation systems for all types of rail vehicles developed and manufactured in China for the domestic and international railway market.”

Besides the reinforcement of engineering competencies and seamless product delivery in China, Liebherr also intensifies comprehensive service performance for its customers in the country. Liebherr-Transportation Systems (China) will accompany its customers all along the entire lifecycle of the products with on-site service based on interconnected train components. Those will enable efficient components diagnostics, with all relevant components in the train being tracked and observed. Components in need for maintenance, service or overhaul can be easily identified and taken care of by Liebherr on-site.

Best quality for high-volume transport in China – and internationally

Liebherr will provide products out of Pinghu in line with the highest standards and compliable with current and future technical regulations in China and everywhere else in the world. Liebherr-Transportation Systems will thereby not only facilitate high-volume railway transport in Asian megacities but will also contribute to the development of the international, crossborder transport sector and will thus strengthen the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative.

The Liebherr Group has been present in China for more than 40 years, in the railway transportation sector for almost 15 years. In 2006, the company started to supply technology to the Chinese railway industry by a dedicated Joint Venture with a Chinese partner. Since 2006, the Joint Venture Zhejiang Liebherr Zhongche Transportation Systems Co., Ltd. has successfully equipped around 5,000 railway cars with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).

Liebherr-Transportation has established lasting partnerships and consistent long-term cooperations and thus contributes to improving mobility for people in China and beyond.
