Dynamic soil compaction

Impact compaction with tamper weights

For impact compaction a heavy tamper weight is dropped from heights of up to 40 metres onto the ground to be compacted. This dynamic input of energy increases the density of the building ground. The craters created through impact compaction are refilled with suitable material and further compacted, if necessary. Duty cycle crawler cranes of the HS series carry out the compaction process efficiently and automatically with free-fall winches and crane control.

Procedure for dynamic compaction

1. Positioning of the drop weight over the compaction point

2. Lifting the drop weight to the drop height

3. Free fall of the drop weight onto the compaction point

4. Lifting the drop weight for the next blow

5. Filling the compaction crater and grading the area

Tamper weight

The tamper weight is dropped in free fall onto the ground to be compacted.

Multiple compaction

Impact series: several impacting blows are made on the same compaction point.

Craters

The created craters are filled with suitable material and further compacted, if required.

Duty cycle crawler cranes as carrier machines

The robust machines of the HS series with extra-large crawlers and booms of high lifting capacity are used.

Automated control system

Hoisting and free fall are controlled automatically. The free-fall control avoids undesired unwinding of the rope.

Compaction under water

Specially designed tamper weights allow for compaction work under water. Here, the machine is used on a barge.
