Application at Quarzwerke Frechen
Under control
All the information on the various sands and their characteristics is aggregated in the control centre. This enables the experts to intervene "live" in processing operations.
Surf’s up
The moisture sensor "surfs" on a metal sled atop the sand that passes by on the conveyor belt. It detects even the slightest fluctuations in moisture and alerts the controllers in the control centre in real time.
Washed and dried
This is where sand processing starts to resemble the launderette. First, the sand passes through washing machines before pouring into the so-called "bunker" to start drying. Then, it is ready to be refined to the desired grade and level of moisture.
A watchful eye
Manfred Schaffgans is head of the e-workshop at Quarzwerke's Frechen plant. He knows the production site like the back of his hand. For him, it is more than just a job. Optimum processes are his passion.
A meeting of minds
Manfred Schaffgans brings dedication and expertise to fine-tuning the quality control of high-quality quartz sand products. Here, he enjoys a chance to swap ideas with the moisture measurement experts from Thomas Maier's team (right).
