Around 250 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, Liebherr is part of the largest construction project in Greenland’s history. Munk Civil Engineering is carrying out dredging work for two airport projects with the HS 8200 duty cycle crawler crane. The Arctic conditions and the logistics pose a particular challenge.

The largest of Liebherr’s duty cycle crawler cranes yet – the type HS 8300 HD – is currently carrying out dredging work in Piombino. The aim of the project is to remove deposited sediment from the mouth of the port and also to increase the depth of the water. For this purpose, the hybrid duty cycle crawler crane is equipped with a hydraulic clamshell grab with a filling capacity of 22 m³.

A Liebherr HS 8100.1 was put to work on a pontoon off Florida coast to excavate around 50,000 cubic yards (approx. 38,000 cubic metres) of material from a pontoon over a period of two months. The machine worked between 10 and 12 hours a day for the entire duration of the project. It was the impressive reliability and performance of the Liebherr duty cycle crawler crane that were critical to its selection.

Whether dredging or extracting gravel: The machine has to endure high dynamic forces during this type of application. Thus, the German company Gran opted for a duty cycle crawler crane from Liebherr’s HS series. With a robust steel construction, the duty cycle crawler cranes are designed for such demanding assignments.

A 130-tonne duty cycle crawler crane from Liebherr is currently operating in the midst of an imposing mountain backdrop in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Its task is to free the reservoir’s drain of deposited sediment. For this purpose, the machine – which is fitted on a barge – features a specially designed mechanical clamshell bucket.
