Key components such as the diesel engine, hydraulic components, electronic components, slewing ring and slewing gearbox have been developed and produced by Liebherr itself for many years. The high level of vertical integration guarantees the highest quality and ensures that the components are optimally matched to each other. The result is enormous performance with low fuel consumption.

The Liebherr Power Efficiency (LPE) system developed and patented by Liebherr optimises the interaction of the drive components to achieve maximum performance with minimum fuel consumption. LPE enables the machine to be operated in the range with the lowest specific fuel consumption. This is achieved by proactively intervening in the engine control system, changing the pivoting angle of the hydraulic pump and adjusting the engine speed. This ensures that every drop of fuel is utilised to the maximum.

The new "PE" function is in addition to the machines existing working modes (P+/P/E). This innovation allows fuel consumption to be reduced by 10 to 15% compared to previous models.

A large number of preset modes enable the operator to quickly and easily adapt the machine’s performance to the respective workstation.

S (Sensitive):

• For particularly sensitive work or lifting loads.

E (Economy):

• For economical and environmentally friendly work. Recommended for normal working conditions.

P (POWER):

• For high digging performance in difficult applications.

P+ (POWER PLUS):

• Specifically designed for maximum performance; recommended for extreme applications only.

• In addition, the engine speed can be continuously adjusted to the operating conditions using a rotary switch. A new feature is the special driving mode, in which the entire engine power is available to the drive. This improves acceleration and driving performance, especially on inclines, while at the same time reducing fuel consumption.

Eco mode

• The selectable Eco mode reduces the engine speed at the touch of a button and further reduces fuel consumption. Ideal for light and medium-duty operations.

• If the machine is idling for a long time, the engine can be switched off automatically and unnecessary fuel consumption prevented.

The sensor-controlled low idle automatic reduces the engine speed to idle as soon as the hand is removed from the joystick and therefore no hydraulic function is activated. The proximity sensors on the joystick activate the original engine speed as soon as the joystick is touched again. This means that the previous speed is immediately available again. This not only saves fuel, but also reduces noise emissions. Operating costs can be further reduced with the optional automatic engine stop.

Liebherr crawler excavators are equipped with the tried-and-tested Modetronic function from Generation 8. This further development allows the driver to adapt the hydraulic characteristics of his excavator to the respective application and his habits. The Modetronic control system offers even more convenience and productivity and controls the following movements: Rotation, driving, boom, stick and bucket.
