With the acquisition of a second Liebherr LTM 1450 8.1, Richter Kran und Schwerlast GmbH of Leipzig is systematically expanding its capacity in the heavy-lift sector. The key factors behind the decision to invest once again in the 450-tonne mobile crane were, in particular, the 85-metre-long telescopic boom and the positive experience gained with an LTM 1450 8.1 already in operation within the fleet. Alongside owner Matthias Richter, crane operator Ronny Burde also travelled to Ehingen for the handover of the crane, where he was celebrating a special anniversary.
The crane’s performance impresses us every day.” The LTM 1450 8.1 covers an exceptionally wide range of applications – from industrial projects to complex operations in the energy and infrastructure sectors,” explains owner Matthias Richter. “With the addition of the 450-tonne crane, we are also gaining the flexibility we need to reliably handle the current high volume of orders, even whilst working on multiple projects simultaneously.”
A further key criterion behind the decision is the LTM 1450 8.1’s 85-metre telescopic boom. Despite its size, the mobile crane can be set up quickly and used flexibly. “It is precisely the combination of high load capacity, boom length and rapid deployment that gives us a decisive advantage in our day-to-day operations,” emphasises Richter.
The LTM 1450 8.1 is used, amongst other things, for the installation of tower cranes and at transformer stations, for the dismantling of wind turbines and for bridge lifting operations, and has already demonstrated its capabilities during its first assignments. In Beilrode, Saxony, the mobile crane lifted battery storage units weighing 47 tonnes each for a solar park covering around 100 hectares. This was followed by an operation in Lemgo, during which a 32-tonne cover was precisely positioned onto a large thermal storage tank at a hook height of 74 metres.
With around 75 employees, Richter Kran- und Schwerlast GmbH operates throughout Germany and internationally in the fields of crane hire, heavy and special transport, and heavy-lift installation. For its mobile crane fleet, the company relies consistently on Liebherr. “We appreciate the high product quality and the reliable service – from sales right through to after-sales, we feel we are well looked after in every respect,” says Richter. The Liebherr fleet now comprises 22 cranes – ranging from 60 to 750 tonnes supplemented by an MK mobile construction crane and an LTR 1100 telescopic crawler crane.
In terms of its personnel too, Richter is synonymous with continuity: alongside owner Matthias Richter, crane operator Ronny Burde was also present at the handover of the new mobile crane in Ehingen. As the company’s first employee, Burde was present as early as 2016 for the handover of the first new Liebherr crane, an LTF 1060. Ten years later, he took delivery of another new mobile crane, the LTM 1450 8.1 – a sign of continuity, long-standing service and well-established partnerships.
