The Function Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance to current Off Highway Function Safety Regulatory Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in all actions/tasks related to functional safety process according to IEC 61508-1
  • Involve in the development and definition, ‘hazard analysis and risk assessment” as per ISO 12100 and IEC 61508
  • Drive activity to write function safety requirements & specifications (general, environment, functional and safety integrity) for safety system.
  • Ensure that hardware and software designers provide the input data necessary for the quantification and justification of all criteria and parameters (PFH, PFD, SFF, etc.) required for the evaluation of the level integrity (SIL) according to the standard used (e.g., IEC 61508-2)
  • Produce block diagrams of the safety functions to be studied. Perform modeling and assessment of the integrity level (SIL) of safety functions.
  • Communicate on gaps between integrity levels (SIL) achieved and required levels. Determine with hardware and software designers what design improvements are required.
  • Support system and sub-system design with respect to system FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Maintains documented roles & responsibilities for each functional safety representative from each of the functional groups.
  • Ensures that appropriate records are maintained with respect to safety systems.
  • Help internal or external auditors in compliance reviews.

Competencies

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor/Master of Science in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering, or similar fields; Minimum of 3-5 years of experience on Function safety projects for Off-Road Machine; Working knowledge with safety standards like IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 19014;Experience in defending Safety Analysis (FMEA, FTA, etc.) at the system level; Excellent written and verbal communication and people engagement skills.
  • Knowledge of safety engineering fundamentals. IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 12100
  • Knowledge of Windchill system as it relates to truck Bill of Materials (BOM) structure and inventory control.
  • Experience in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and interfaces.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, schematics, part drawings, assembly drawings, component/system specifications and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport.
