Press releases | 09/23/2014 Sommer Kranverleih expands fleet with a Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane

  • Sommer investing in 5 new Liebherr mobile cranes this year
  • Entering the luffing fly jib class with the LTM 1300-6.2
  • Weight advantages due to single-engine design

Company owner Franz Sommer and son Björn Sommer visited the Liebherr plant in Ehingen at the end of August to take possession of their new flagship, the 6-axis LTM 1300-6.2, in person. With this 300-ton crane, the Bremen crane company is expanding their fleet upwards, because the new crane is the company's first with a luffing fly jib.

Björn Sommer explains: "Our customer's needs are growing when it comes to weight and lifting height. Since our largest crane, the 220-ton LTM 1220-5.2, could no longer reach everywhere, we decided to purchase the new LTM 1300-6.2 with the luffing fly jib. As the smallest luffing fly jib crane on the market, it's perfect for getting us into this category. We like the weight advantage of the new design with just one engine, too."

The LTM 1300-6.2 is the successor to the 250-ton LTM 1250-6.1. With its 78 m telescopic boom, the new crane offers an additional 6 m in length over its predecessor. In addition its load capacity has been increased dramatically. Liebherr has designed the new 6-axle mobile crane on the one hand as a classic folding jib crane so that it can be used with the same speed and flexibility as a 5-axle model by crane operators. On the other hand, the LTM 1300-6.2 is the only 300-tonner on the market that offers a luffing lattice jib. The lattice jib can be erected in 3.5 m increments up to a height of 70 m. The 14 m - 42 m fixed jib also has modules of 3.5 m which helps to improve its load capacity.

Sommer will use the LTM 1300-6.2 for applications like industrial installations, erections of tower cranes and for the repair and dismantling of smaller wind power plants.

Sommer Kranverleih has already invested in 5 new mobile cranes this year: In addition to the LTM 1300-6.2, they have also purchased an LTM 1055-3.2, an LTM 1130-5.1 and two LTM 1090-4.1 cranes. Björn Sommer explains that the decision to invest is due to a good order situation and the current good sales conditions for used cranes. "Liebherr mobile cranes have an especially high resale value. Liebherr's service is outstanding and their mobile cranes are reliable and user-friendly. From their small cranes to the large ones, the operation is the same," Sommer continues.

Sommer Kranverleih was founded in Bremen in 1959 and is still active regionally today in the greater Bremen region. For over 40 years, the company has relied on Liebherr cranes. Today, all 15 mobile cranes in their fleet bear the Liebherr logo. Their oldest crane is an LTM 1025 built in 1991, and their largest is now the new LTM 1300-6.2.
