New diesel engines enter production

The fruits of a four-year co-operation: in January, mass production begins for the new 6-cylinder engine series that Liebherr has developed in cooperation with its Russian partner, KAMAZ. These diesel engines offer an impressive balance of high power and optimal fuel consumption. Starting in 2019, they will be installed in the latest generation of KAMAZ K5 vehicles.

Environmentally friendly climate control

Liebherr makes public transport better for the environment: after a 24-month trial phase, Eco-Clim, the first "green" climate control system, has passed field testing. This climate control system is completely free of chemical coolants. Instead, it uses an airborne coolant technology that originated in the aviation industry.

World premieres and the project of the century

Construction machines in Paris: at Intermat, one of the construction industry’s largest trade fairs, Liebherr presented innovative technologies and world premieres from its wide range of products. The theme of this year’s fair was the project of the century: "Grand Paris". There are plans to build 200 km of new metro lines to relieve the traffic situation in the French capital. Countless Liebherr construction machines are already in use on sites in and around Paris.

The German Chancellor pays Liebherr a visit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Federal Minister of Transportation Andreas Scheuer visit the Liebherr Aerospace stand at the ILA Berlin Air Show, one of the largest international aerospace trade fairs in the world. Dr. Willi Liebherr showed them the Group’s research on fully electrical components for the aircraft of the future.

New heavy lift crane in the port of Rostock

Strengthening maritime infrastructure: Liebherr begins installing one of the most powerful land-based, heavy-load cranes in the world in the port of Rostock. The 164-m-tall TCC 7800 will be used to load Liebherr’s increasingly large maritime cranes and will also be available for external heavy-duty handling in the port of Rostock.

Domestic appliances enter production in India

The fast-growing Indian market: Liebherr opens a 50-acre production plant in Aurangabad. Liebherr Appliances India Private Limited specialises in the production of high-quality refrigerators and freezers for the Indian market. Due to the rapid transformation of living conditions there, India is expected to offer great sales opportunities in the future.

Strong ties

3,000 visitors from more than 80 countries: during the customer days at Liebherr’s plant in Ehingen, a global audience enjoyed exciting demonstrations and a chance to experience the latest developments from the world of crane technology. This year, all eyes were on a crane artwork which symbolised the theme of "strong ties". A "spider-like" Liebherr mobile crane dangles from a giant net stretched between multiple mobile and crawler cranes.

Ground-breaking for new company headquarters

Long-term growth strategy: Liebherr has laid the cornerstone for site expansion and a new company headquarters for Liebherr USA, Co. at the Newport News location. The group has invested around US$ 45 million in expanding by more than 250,000 m². The investment is expected to promote long-term growth in the US market.

Major airport project with 23 tower cranes

Construction site at a fully-operational airport: the airport in Santiago de Chile is one of South America’s most important transportation hubs. Twenty-three Liebherr tower cranes were used during its expansion. What made this project so extraordinary is that air traffic continued as usual rather than being brought to a halt. Passengers now have an impressive view of the construction site and cranes during take-off and landing.

New thinking

Liebherr invited visitors to the International Radio Exhibition (IFA) in Berlin to experience how connected household appliances make everyday living smarter. Have you ever gone shopping and forgotten whether you need to buy milk? The specially made app for your refrigerator can now tell you, along with which recipes will magically use up the rest of the contents of your fridge. Another stand-out was the unveiling of new refrigerators and freezers from the Monolith range.

Tallest building in Europe

Breathtaking heights: the 462-m-tall Lakhta Tower was constructed in just three years using four Liebherr tower cranes. At the adjacent multipurpose building, six more Liebherr cranes were in use. Liebherr service technicians are guiding the construction of the new building, even under difficult weather conditions.

Recognition for chefs

The Gault&Millau restaurant guide has awarded the chefs at two Liebherr hotels. The Gault-Millau toque is one of the most prestigious awards in haute cuisine, alongside the Michelin star. Thomas Cavalho de Sousa (left) cooked up two toques for the Löwen-Hotel Montafon in Schruns (Austria). And Mario Döring (right), head chef at the Interalpen-Hotel in Tyrol (Austria), was awarded with three of the coveted toques.

Deep impression

The Jätkäsaari peninsula in southern Helsinki is to be converted into an attractive city district by 2030. At the site where pop singer Madonna gave one of the largest concerts of all time to a Scandinavian audience in 2009, plans have been made to construct apartments for 21,000 people. Before construction can begin, a Liebherr crawler crane is compacting the ground. The nearly 14-tonne drop weight falls from a height of 10 m, making a sound reminiscent of a booming bass line at a concert.

Serial production of 3D-printed components

Pioneering work with new production processes: Liebherr has started 3D-printing components for Airbus. The first fit-for-flight component that Liebherr produced using the 3D printing process is a bracket for the nose landing gear of the Airbus A350 XWB. Compared with conventional brackets, the 3D-printed component is 29 % lighter.
