In 2024, Liebherr announced the groundbreaking of its new state-of-the-art logistics facility based in Tupelo, MS. The first phase involves an investment of $176 million and is expected to create 180 new jobs for Liebherr in the USA in 2027.

The facility is designed to enhance Liebherr’s service capabilities across the Americas by providing faster and more efficient services to customers, reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry.

The new logistics center in Tupelo, MS, will play a significant role in the management and distribution of spare parts and products from six of twelve North American product segments: earthmoving, tower cranes, concrete technology, mobile and crawler cranes, maritime cranes, and components. It will also serve as a hub for a wide range of operations, including warehousing, distribution, pre-assembly, kitting, repackaging, and customs and export services for the Americas.

Tupelo trajectory

Led by Bastian Gauer, logistics director, Liebherr Logistics USA, Co., this state-of-the-art facility aims to streamline operations and strengthen the company’s supply chain infrastructure.

Since the inception of this longstanding initiative, Gauer has been actively engaged, offering valuable insights that bridge Liebherr’s global expertise with local requirements for this ongoing project.

The new continental warehouse in Tupelo, MS, will eventually span an area of approximately 12 acres. It is located on a 74-acre plot in the Hive Business Park, leaving 36 acres for expanding or adding other buildings, if needed. This new campus will deliver logistics and other services for all Liebherr customers across the Americas, featuring cutting-edge technologies, sustainable design elements, and scalability to adapt to evolving needs.

Mississippi continues to attract logistics investments due to its strategic geography, improving infrastructure, and incentives offered by state economic development programs. The state’s experience in supporting major distribution centers means that the construction process follows general industry standards, including local adaptations for climate, soil conditions, and storm resilience.

Gauer noted, “Given the strong support from local government and community organizations to ensure the project’s smooth development and a positive business environment, Tupelo’s Hive Business Park provides an excellent location for Liebherr's new logistics center as it offers logistical advantages that help serve customers across the Americas more efficiently.”

The park offers modern infrastructure for warehousing, distribution, and other logistics operations.

Mastering the craft

Throughout 2025, Liebherr’s designated contractor, Evans General Contractors, has been deploying a comprehensive range of machinery to begin construction of the new logistics facility. This multi-phase process includes design, permitting, site preparation, building construction, and final systems installation to include but not limited to earth work, concrete work, building envelop, steel installation including joist and deck, electrical installation, plumbing, roofing, HVAC and many other trades.

Moving approximately 250,000 yd3 of dirt, enough to roughly fill 20,000 standard dump trucks or fill 76 Olympic sized pools, the Tupelo team currently utilizes a wide range of Liebherr products to begin site clearing, earth work, mass grading, utility installation, laying concrete foundations, and heavy lifting.

Employing a fleet of Liebherr machines ensures that the construction process is efficient, safe, and meets the highest standards of quality. This strategic use of in-house equipment highlights Liebherr's commitment to innovation in its own operations and the USA.

Major impact

Working on the new Liebherr logistics center is incredibly significant due to its extensive impact on both Liebherr customers and the local Tupelo community. During the groundbreaking event, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves noted the importance of this investment in driving Tupelo’s growth and its transformative impact on the local economy. “It’s about creating job opportunities for our people. That’s what a great company like Liebherr is going to do here in this community, and that’s something that really gets me excited about this project.”

Liebherr USA is actively advancing local workforce development efforts in Tupelo. The U.S-based human resources and recruitment teams are collaborating with colleagues from Liebherr’s global logistics team to align on strategic HR priorities, share operational updates, and coordinate the necessary support for local job creation and recruitment initiatives.

This project will generate hundreds of construction and long-term operational jobs, strengthen regional supply chain capabilities, and attract further industrial development. This kind of strategic infrastructure sets the stage for sustained growth, increased tax revenues, and enhanced competitiveness for both the local community and the state.

This influx of employment will drive economic growth in the region, providing stable incomes and fostering community development. Working on such a transformative project is not only a testament to Liebherr USA's commitment to operational excellence but also a significant contribution to the economic well-being of the local communities involved.
