1500th Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 mobile crane delivered to Ley-Krane

Liebherr originally launched the 70-tonne crane with its 50-metre telescopic boom with the model name LTM 1070-4.1. New technical features such as speed-dependent rear axle steering, disc brakes and the new LICCON2 controller were added in 2008 and the model name was changed to LTM 1070-4.2. Afterwards Liebherr continuously updated the model to keep it up with the state of the art in mobile crane technology. For example, technical innovations such as VarioBase®, ECOmode, new crane cabins, new one-piece steel wheel rims and the latest generation of disc brakes were added to it very quickly.

Ley-Krane ordered the LTM 1070-4.2 with the VarioBase® variable support base. Company owner Markus Ley explained: "The variable support base enables us to use the crane flexibly and above all more safely. The remote control is another major contribution to enhancing safety because the crane driver is closer to the job and can see everything that is happening. The crane can also be assembled more easily."

The economic overall concept of the LTM 1070-4.2 was another major reason behind the purchase decision taken by Ley. "As it is a 4-axle machine, it is very compact and can carry a great deal of ballast on the road. That means we can use the crane very flexibly without additional transport costs", said Markus Ley. The company owner also praised the new Liebherr engines. The LTM 1070-4.2 is now fitted with a 6-cylinder diesel engine which complies with emissions stage IV and develops 300 kW (408 bhp). "The new engine is more powerful and uses less fuel. In our mountainous region we can make significant fuel savings."

Ley-Krane GmbH und Co. KG operates a fleet of over 200 working platforms and 15 mobile cranes with lifting capacities between 50 and 300 tonnes with its 30-strong workforce. Plans to make a further addition to the crane fleet are already well underway as Ley has ordered the new Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 8-axle crane. The company dates back as far as 1850. Today it is managed by the sixth generation of the same family.
