This multi-tine grab was not just developed for our customers, but primarily in partnership with our customers. Their everyday, long experience in using this equipment together with decades of Liebherr expertise in grab production raises our development and production of grabs to a whole new level. The result of this intense collaboration is that the new GMM 50-5 multi-tine grab delivers extraordinary capacity, incredible strength and an extremely lengthy service life. And these superlatives have not happened by chance. The use and targeted selection of very high quality materials combined with the sophisticated interplay of the various components provide the guarantee for the unrivalled durability, stability and strength of this grab.

There is an extensive portfolio of tine shapes and capacities available for the efficient, economical handling of scrap and recycling material. This is perfectly tailored to the specific, individual customer use and the material being handled.
The grab version with five tines has been specially developed to ensure the best possible handling of mixed and shredded scrap or also chippings. The arrangement and shape of the tines has been improved to ensure perfect penetration and holding of bulky yet loose material.
Three perfectly designed tine shapes are available for handling a very wide range of recycling materials:
For handling large, bulky scrap
For handling medium-sized, mixed materials and sheared scrap
For handling small, fine-grain materials and chippings
The swivel circuit is fitted with two engines as standard. Dividing the high torque between two engines is a smart solution for significantly extending service life whilst reducing wear to an absolute minimum. The high torque makes working with all that power a real pleasure.
Engines with displacements of 125 cm³ (7.6 in³) or 200 cm³ (12.2 in³) are available depending on the job in hand.
A protected hydraulic system fitted with robust pipes provides the best possible protection from all known types of damage.
The GMM 50-5 features a swivel circuit with a compact design height for high charging possibility and comfortable operation. Large oil ducts with improved flow properties for a fast, powerful oil flow to achieve impressive working speeds. A sealed rotary connection and the reinforced swivel circuit, which is also sealed, highlight the quality and outstanding durability of the new GMM 50-5. This reliable, efficient grab hydraulic system makes particularly economical scrap and recycling material handling simply a matter of course in everyday working practice.
The grab features a sealed, anti-torsion piston rod guard as standard to protect from falling scrap parts, for example when dealing with bulky mixed scrap which is difficult to handle.
The hydraulic cylinders enjoy a long service life thanks to their build quality which includes the largest possible bearings for the bushing, the low wear bushings themselves and an excellent seal on the bearings to minimise wear.
A new cylinder kinematic system is used to extend the service life of the cylinder even further. Even when the tine has suffered wear it will still close effectively. Larger, high tensile screws provide the piston rod bearing with additional resistance.
A wider bearing on the solid tine bearing pin sealed on all sides eliminates the possibility of long-term wear. The combination of replaceable bushes and a newly designed pin lock reduces maintenance intervals to a rarity.
The tine bearing can be lubricated right on the pin quickly and easily. The whole process could not be easier.
Perfect tolerances of the tine cross member ensure low wear interplay between the tine and tine carrier.
The tine bearing benefits from long-lasting lubrication, lower wear and minimum friction to ensure has an unusually long service life. The increased contact area between the tine and tine carrier results in the bearing delivering an unrivalled service life.
The form and finish of the new weld connection between the inside sheet and tine body achieve a maximum service life for extreme stresses in harsh environments.
The components of the GMM 50-5 made of solid cast steel or low wear, high strength sheet steel will withstand any stress and complete any function. The strategically positioned, but also widespread use of these materials guarantees the incredible stability and resistance of the new grab in the harshest handling scenarios.
The special shapes of the tine carrier and grab tines were created using the very latest calculation and simulation software. This modern development process turns this contradiction between extreme strength and the lowest possible net weight into a harmonious whole.
Economical, efficient handling is ensured by a large number of tine versions. The perfect tine shapes and sizes are therefore available for every type of job.
The newly designed wear rib on the reverse of the cast tine significantly extends the service life of the tine. The wear rib does not however restrict the tine’s ability to penetrate into a wide variety of scrap and recycling material easily and precisely.
The special shape and alignment of the tine tips ensures long-lasting, effective penetration to ensure efficient handling of scrap and recycling material.
A new material with significantly improved hardness values gives the tine tips a pleasingly long service life.
Lubrication points are kept to a minimum and are positioned for quick and easy access to ensure the entire multi-tine grab is perfectly lubricated whilst keeping downtime to a minimum.
The optional motor guard protects the grab from the external use of force and against damaging its motors in harsh everyday working conditions. This additional guard is definitely recommended for challenging scrap handling involving, for example, bulky mixed scrap. Damage to swivel motors and hydraulic lines are thus consigned to the past.
The lubricating points on the multi-tine grab, together with an optional central lubrication system become a wonderful symbiosis for automatic lubrication using the specified lubrication cycle. Regular manual lubrication of all the lubricating points can therefore simply be forgotten.
The central lubrication system once again increases the economy of the grab significantly. The time saving for maintenance and the exclusion of damage caused by poor lubrication can quickly make this feature a worthwhile, sensible investment.
The five tine grab can be fitted with the load lug option for securing magnetic plates.
The load lug is mounted beneath the grab mechanics and is rated for up to 8 tonnes (17,637 lb).
The preparation for installing a radioactivity system is available as an ex-works option for quality assurance and to ensure clean, radiation-free scrap and recycling material. From the very first contact with the material for handling, this enables potential radiation to be detected and contaminated material to be identified immediately and precisely. Various preparations with different packages are available for these jobs depending on what the customer requires.
The power supply for the radioactivity system can either come from the carrier machine using slip-ring transfer units or from a replaceable battery installed in the hose protection.
Depending on the preparation type, this option includes a sturdy protective cage for the actual measuring system which is installed on the underside of the grab mechanics.
The radioactivity system is not included.
The optional cylinder hose protection provides effective protection for the hydraulic connections and lines on the cylinders from massive forces and external damage. This sensible feature is highly recommended to prevent downtimes of the grab and pollution caused by oil leaks.
We can also supply a reinforcing kit for the tines to reduce wear even further hence extending their service life. These additional plates are made of an extraordinarily resistant material. This further reinforces the edges of the inside sheet, which are already highly resistant to wear. In addition, no material will become caught on this reinforcing kit on the inside of the tines.
