Machine for lathe/milling work
To machine large cylinders and piston rods, Liebherr uses high quality machines for lathe/milling work. Our machines have a lathe length of up to 8,250 millimetres with a maximum chuck diameter of 1,180 millimetres.
Liebherr performs the largest honing process on its own premises. We have modern machines there for honing large cylinders. The machines masterfully produce cylinders up to 10,200 millimetres and a maximum diameter of 560 millimetres.
Cycle lathe machine
The cycle lathe machine enables reliable production of prototypes for the lathing process. Our machine enables a lathing length of up to 10 metres. The maximum chuck diameter is 820 millimetres.
Robot welding system
The robot-guided double welding system from Liebherr impresses with high welding speed and simple process control. The maximum machining length is 12,500 millimetres.
Deep drilling machine
A tool specially-developed for drilling cylinder components makes it possible to drill, pre-turn and roll smooth in one process. The boring diameter is up to 500 millimetres while the boring length is up to 5 metres.
Friction welding technology
To manufacture hydraulic cylinders, we employ innovative friction welding technology. This makes it possible to weld a whole range of different materials. Numerous combinations of rod heads and round material diameters result in an exceptionally broad product portfolio. As a customer, you profit from high availability and cost efficiency.

This norm forms the basis for our QA system and the ongoing improvement process within the company.
EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011; EXC4 in accordance with EN 1090-2 (PDF, 378 KB)
This certification qualifies us to weld and produce steel support structures. These serve, for example, as earthquake protection in nuclear power stations.
DGRL 97/23/EG – AD 2000 (PDF, 209 KB)
This certification controls the manufacture of pressurised equipment.
Certification according to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) (PDF, 1.4 MB)
This certification controls the manufacture of pressurised equipment according to the rules of the ASME for the global market.

This norm defines the extensive demands on quality for fusion welding metallic materials.
Modern calculation methods
The design and calculation of our cylinders is application-specific according to the relevant applicable standards and regulations e.g. AD 2000, ASME and DIN/ISO. For the calculations, we rely on highly modern analysis and simulation software such as Ansys for FEM analysis. Our cylinders undergo approval inspection as required in co-operation with renowned approval inspection and classification authorities.
