By the end of 2028, Liebherr-Transportation Systems will supply a total of 68 air conditioning units for the driver’s cabs and 408 units for the passenger carriages of 34 vehicles (plus a possible option of another eleven trains) to the vehicle manufacturer Siemens Mobility GmbH in Vienna, Austria, where they will be installed in metro trains of the Vienna public transport company.

“This new order is an important milestone for our company and shows that we are consistently focussed on the needs of our customers and offer them tailored solutions. We have been awarded a major metro project and we are delighted to further intensify our cooperation with Siemens,” said Dirk Junghans, Managing Director and Head of Sales, Marketing & Customer Service at Liebherr-Transportation Systems GmbH & Co KG on the conclusion of the contract.

Furthermore, Siemens Mobility GmbH and Liebherr-Transportation Systems have signed a material supply contract for the service, so that maintenance and availability of the air conditioning units run smoothly together.

The X-type trains are used across the entire Vienna metro network (U1 to U4). In future, they will be used on the new, fully automatic (driverless) U5 line. In addition, the new X-type trains will gradually replace some of the old “Silver Arrows” on the conventional U1 to U4 lines.
