Pioneering technologies

As we move towards a sustainable future, we present the innovative drive systems that we are working on in detail. Let our diverse portfolio of future-oriented drive technologies inspire you.

Hydrogen

In the near future, new products will be launched that are powered by hydrogen and fuel cells as energy converters.

The first hydrogen-powered Liebherr R9XX H2 crawler excavator was already presented at Bauma 2022 and won the Innovation Award.

The advantages of using this type of drive:

Independence from a permanent energy supply

  • Significantly reduced pollutant emissions
  • Great future potential
  • Particularly suitable for heavy-duty applications
  • Same overall performance as a diesel-powered version
  • Fast refuelling

Electric motor

Liebherr is pursuing the development of battery-powered and mains-powered electric drives for its machines.

We already offer machines that are driven by an electric motor. The following machines are already available:

LH 26 E - R 976 E - L 507 E

The advantages of using this type of drive:

Battery-powered electric drive

  • Local zero-emission operation
  • Increased driver comfort
  • Maximum energy efficiency

Mains-powered electric drive

  • Zero-emission operation
  • Enlargement of the working area or range of movement through optional batteries

Alternative fuels

HVO and e-fuels are synthetically produced renewable diesel fuels that comply with the EN 15940 standard, among others.

Compatibility with Liebherr machines is already a given, which also contributes to future independence from fossil fuels.

The advantages of using this type of drive:

  • CO2 reduction
  • lower AdBlue consumption
  • reduced soot formation
  • increased ageing and cold stability
  • no engine oil dilution
