With the LMD 1200, Liebherr is launching a machine specially developed for the extraction of raw materials in demanding mining applications. A variable boom system for dragline operation, easy relocation within the mine and the robust steel construction ensure flexibility and reliability – even in extreme conditions and with high utilisation.
The LMD 1200 – Liebherr Mining Dragline – has been specially developed for applications with draglines for wet or dry mining. The boom system can be configured flexibly depending on the operating conditions in order to achieve the optimum working performance. The maximum lifting capacity of 30 tonnes with a working radius of 40 metres meets the requirements of large mining projects and is reflected in the product designation 1200. Thanks to its robust steel construction, the LMD 1200 mining dragline is extremely reliable and designed for continuous use in extreme weather conditions, which ensures high availability and a long service life.
The LMD 1200 can be equipped with a dragline of up to 12.25 cubic metres and can dig to depths of down to 25 metres. The Liebherr twin hydraulic motors automatically adjust the speed of the winches to the required digging force. This ensures even and optimum filling of the dragline and significantly increases the handling capacity. In combination with the powerful swing gear, this results in shorter working cycles and higher productivity.
The fairlead of the LMD 1200 consists of a pivoting roller head with rope pulleys and guide rollers as well as the bearing and an automatic positioning unit. This leads to a wear-reducing spooling of the grab rope onto the rope drum. The large rope diameter and standard grooving significantly extend the service life of the ropes. The new rope lock allows for the rope to be changed quickly and so reduces downtimes.
Thanks to the specially developed hydraulic components, the drive train is optimally designed and functionally harmonised. The combination of engine power and reduced hydraulic pressure enables efficient operation with both low fuel consumption and high handling capacity. The integrated tank with a capacity of 1000 litres and an 8270-litre additional tank allow the LMD 1200 to run continuously for up to one week without refuelling. The core components include a high proportion of Liebherr’s own developments, which increases the availability of parts and thus the operational readiness.
The mobility concept of the LMD 1200 enables it to be driven and relocated within the mine with the boom lowered, which represents a major time and cost factor in the production-intensive mining industry. The entire mining dragline can be assembled or disassembled within a week – a clear advantage for customers considering the large size and operating weight of 360 tonnes.
When developing the LMD 1200, great importance was attached to a high level of driver comfort. The spacious cabin impresses with its noise-optimised design and offers an excellent overview of the working area. Cameras on the machine extend the operator’s field of vision and enable a safe all-round view as well as the monitoring of the winding of the ropes on the winches. The tinted safety glass offers welcome sun protection and the air conditioning system ensures a perfect working climate. The orthopaedic driver’s seat can be heated, cooled or ventilated as required. The cabin is equipped with a second driver’s seat for practical training of new operators. A well thought-out lighting concept for the boom, cabin and access ways to the machine ensures optimum visibility when working at night.
Liebherr application engineers train customers worldwide in the operation of the LMD 1200 mining dragline in order to achieve the best possible productivity in the field. The new model was presented as part of the 50th anniversary of Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH in June 2026 and is now available.
