Lattice boom mobile cranes combine the high capacity of crawler cranes with the mobility of all-terrain cranes. The Dutch crane and transport company Kraanverhuur D. Boekestijn B.V. is changing a 90-tonne gearbox on a wind turbine in Maasvlakte, a large industrial and port area of Rotterdam. To do this, the LG 1750 was set up with a 119-metre SL main boom and a 19-metre fixed jib.

As part of comprehensive flood protection measures, the Saalach near Salzburg was significantly widened. This made the old footbridge from the 1960s too short. To meet the new requirements, pedestrians and cyclists were given a 75-metrelong arch bridge over the border river between Austria and Germany last summer.

A Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane from AKM Autokranvermietung in Munich was used to lift the steel structure into place. In order to cope with the 115-tonne load and the required boom radius, a temporary parking area was erected on the riverbed for the 8-axle heavy-duty professional – and then dismantled again after the bridge was successfully lifted.

History was made in Bari, southern Italy: a railway bridge from 1915 had to make way for a modern successor. Fratelli Paradiso Srl relied on the Liebherr LR 11000 crawler crane for this demanding task. The figures are impressive: 120 tonnes of load at a 90‑metre radius, with a 102‑metre main boom, derrick boom and suspended ballast with V-frame. The biggest challenge, however, was the time: only four hours were available, as rail traffic had to be interrupted. Precision was required when the new bridge was positioned precisely on the abutments. Thanks to perfect planning, experience and the performance of the LR 11000, the mission was completed successfully.
