Our environmental commitment

Our environmental commitment
Being mindful of the environment from start to finish
From the very first sketches, we placed the environment at the heart of our designs. The Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim site is designed to have the smallest possible ecological footprint, to blend seamlessly into its surroundings and to demonstrate that modern industry can fully coexist with nature.
Incorporating the ecosystem into the site’s design
Every aspect of the infrastructure was developed with climate, energy and landscape considerations in mind. The site is aiming for the BREEAM* Very Good certification - an international standard for environmental performance in industrial buildings. This demanding framework was chosen deliberately to reflect a core conviction: environmental quality is as just as important as industrial quality.
The important role played by the ecologist
Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim enlisted the help of an independent ecologist from the very beginning of the project. This specialist in natural environments plays a central role in reducing the environmental impact of the site.
Throughout the entire design and construction cycle, they will:
- identify animal and plant species present in the area
- monitor the animals during sensitive periods (breeding season, migration season, etc.)
- recommend biodiversity-friendly measures (hedges, nest boxes, refuge areas)
- assist with the implementation of regulatory commitments and the BREEAM certification,
- document and monitor the environment throughout the construction phase.
This partnership guarantees rigorous and measurable ecological integration and illustrates the Group's determination to make the site a model of balance between industry, environment and quality of life.
Choices that prove our commitment
The decisions made for this site are concrete and measurable:
- Energy will be produced on site: photovoltaic panels will generate electricity and geothermal energy will supply heating and cooling. This limits the use of fossil fuels.
- The building is equipped with automated systems, designed for optimal energy performance for heating, ventilation, illumination and solar energy production.
- Rainwater is treated on-site by infiltration or reuse.
- The surrounding environment is carefully maintained with orchards and biodiversity zones integrated into the site.
- The project is designed to blend into the landscape
Extending responsibility to the entire supply chain
Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim also encourages its partners to be proactive. To reduce environmental impact, we work primarily with suppliers based in Europe. Additionally, all production will be transported to the Liebherr site in Colmar using low-impact vehicles.
This approach goes beyond the production site: it applies to the entire industrial ecosystem to which it belongs.
Minimal impact, optimal integration
This project is built on a rigorous, high-performance and respectful industrial model which compromises neither environmental responsibility nor economic requirements. Its design is based on concrete choices to limit its impact and help preserve resources, the living environment and biodiversity.
Technical innovation is used to serve as a long-term anchor.
*BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is an environmental certification standard for buildings, created in the United Kingdom in 1990. Today, it is one of the most internationally recognised certifications.
