Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim is both a production site and a strategic milestone for the Liebherr Group. Located in the heart of Europe, not far from the historic Colmar site, it embodies the company’s commitment to demanding, flexible and responsible manufacturing.
Specialising in the assembly of operator cabs for the Group’s earthmoving machines, this site will enhance process management, optimise workflows, and better meet market expectations - while also creating new industrial jobs in the region.
Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim is part of a long-term industrial roadmap: building a more sustainable, autonomous industry capable of adapting to changes in its environment.
Designed to meet the highest standards, the Nambsheim site combines:
This project is part of a regional restructuring initiative, launched after the closure of the Fessenheim nuclear power plant. The Eco Rhena zone has been identified as a strategic site, close to the Rhine port and Liebherr’s historic infrastructures. The site was designed in close collaboration with the local authorities, in compliance with environmental regulations and through ongoing dialogue with local residents.
Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim is committed to a concrete environmental approach, based on the BREEAM “Very Good” certification for the design and construction of the building. This approach involves rigorous monitoring of the project’s overall impact throughout the construction phase.
An independent ecologist plays a central role in this process. As a specialist in natural equilibrium, their role is to:
The proposed measures are integrated into the project on a long-term basis: the Nambsheim site has been designed to blend in with the natural environment and encourage local biodiversity. This expert ensures that environmental considerations are effectively and measurably incorporated into the site’s design and construction.
Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim combines proven technologies, rational automation and intelligent control. It is supported by an ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 certified management system which ensure rigorous control of energy consumption and reduced environmental impact. The goal: achieving sustainable performance through resource-consciousness, method and innovation.
From the outset, the project aimed to minimise its impact on the surrounding environment. Delivery areas are located inside the building. Sound, visual and light pollution are strictly controlled and kept to a minimum. This ‘encapsulated’ model required a several million euro investment to ensure the Nambsheim site is well integrated into its environment.
Dialogue with local stakeholders is structured, regular and transparent. Liebherr works closely with local authorities, economic networks and industrial bodies. Local residents are directly involved in the process. The Group has organised a number of discussion forums, including an optional preliminary consultation and a public information meeting, to present the project and address local concerns. This approach reflects a strong commitment to regional integration and collaboration.
This site represents a relocated, high-performance and sustainable industrial model. Vertical integration (an industrial strategy in which several stages of a company’s value chain are performed in-house, rather than outsourced) enables better control over quality, lead times and innovation. It also demonstrates Liebherr's commitment to investing in the industry while respecting local communities. This marks a major milestone in the Group's strategy to produce in Europe with increased autonomy and control.
It was designed to combine industrial performance, controlled innovation and social responsibility. Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim is a site built to last, evolve and inspire other projects within the Group. Its flexible, modular and well-integrated design makes it a model for the future of European industry.
By 2030, over 200 jobs will have been created. These positions are designed to be sustainable, evolving and accessible throughout the Colmar basin.
The site is based on a flexible and empowering management model. Every employee plays a role within the system: careers are rewarding, skill development is encouraged, and the work environment is designed to be comfortable, ergonomic and safe. Inclusivity and equal opportunities are at the very heart of our social policy.
Respect, autonomy, receptiveness and responsibility. The site reflects the Group's promise as an employer: “One Passion. Many Opportunities." At Liebherr, technology serves our employees, and the environment is designed to foster commitment, development and stability. Our employees are a key factor in our success.
