Environment and energy
As an internationally operational group of companies, we accept our responsibility for the impact our industrial activities have on the environment and climate. This is why we are always striving to make our production sites more energy-efficient and more economical in its use of resources. Our goal is to continue to reduce our environmental impact, increase efficiency and to contribute towards transparent reporting.
By means of internal data collection, regular audits and collaboration across sites, we are laying the foundations for a systematic development of our production processes – with a focus on long-term and conscientious action.
Environmental and energy management
The Liebherr Group’s environmental and energy management has a decentralised structure. Local environmental and energy officers and cross-regional working groups assist the sites in the performance of specific measures.
These are focused on lowering energy consumption and increasing energy efficiency. This includes the use of renewable energy sources, expanding photovoltaic plants and heat recovery systems, as well as optimising production and logistics processes. In addition to this, energy-efficient system technology is being used, production steps are being powered by electricity and the energy rating of existing buildings is gradually being upgraded – including with improved insulation of the building envelope, LED lighting and replacing fossil powered heating systems.
By the end 2025, more than 45 Liebherr sites were running on green energy. By 2030, all production sites should be certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards.
Material efficiency
In order to make efficient use of raw materials and to reduce waste, we return process materials back into the production cycle wherever possible and we are increasing the proportion of recycled raw materials, as far as is technically feasible. A targeted sorting system helps to increase the recycling quotas at our sites.
