Kran Völkl GmbH & Co. KG from Straubing is relying on technology from Ehingen to modernise its crane fleet: following the acquisition of an LTC 1050-3.1 and an LTM 1150-5.3 around two years ago, the Lower Bavarian crane and transport company now operates a further LTM 1150-5.3. With a twelve-tonne axle load, the LTM 1150-5.3 carries nine tonnes of counterweight on public roads, enabling it to carry out many jobs without the need for an additional vehicle to transport ballast.
Völkl regularly invests in new technology to meet the demands of the construction and industrial sectors. “We generally use our vehicles for eight years and then invest in new ones,” explains Daniel Völkl Fischl, deputy managing director. “We are extremely satisfied with our first LTM 1150-5.3 – the investment has absolutely paid off, both technically and economically. That is why we opted for the same model, with identical specifications.”
The Liebherr 150-tonne cranes feature, amongst other things, a hydraulic double-folding jib, a second hoist with a mounting jib, a radio remote control, aluminium rims and a boom camera. Added to this is a comprehensive LED lighting package with ten work lights. “The capacity for accessories was particularly important to us. Despite nine tonnes of ballast, a second hoist and a three-roller hook block, there is still around 400 kilograms of headroom at the maximum gross weight of 60 tonnes. That’s why we opted for the alloy wheels,” says Daniel Völkl Fischl.
Völkl uses its LTM 1150-5.3 for construction site work, industrial applications, precast assembly and recovery operations. The company’s own crane fleet currently comprises 13 units, including a large number of Liebherr cranes. Völkl Fischl explains: “We have been a Liebherr customer for several years. As we are satisfied with the quality and service, we opted for Liebherr.”
The family-run business was founded in 1932 and today employs around 30 staff. Alongside a continuous fleet renewal programme, the company focuses on organic growth and technological development. “Over the last two years, we have purchased a total of four new cranes – three of them to replace existing ones, and one to expand our fleet,” says Völkl Fischl.
