Telescopic truck-mounted crane hoists work platform through a gym roof

For the new-build gymnasium at a primary school in the south of Berlin, a telescopic work platform had to be hoisted over the roof into the site as access inside the hall itself was simply not possible. Crane contractor Herrmann & Wittrock used a Liebherr LTF 1060-4.1 truck-mounted crane from its branch in Gross Kienitz to hoist the eight-tonne device into position in constricted conditions.

The 21 metre articulated telescopic work platform was required to install safety nets inside the new gym. As the crane position in front of the building was very constricted, it was not possible to extend all the outriggers in full. In fact, the two outriggers towards the load were fully extended whilst the other two were only extended around 50 percent.

Liebherr VarioBase® ensured that the hoist could nevertheless be completed with maximum performance and safety. In addition to its LTM mobile cranes, Liebherr can now also supply its innovative VarioBase® variable support base for its LTF telescopic truck-mounted crane series.

Good communication between the crane operator and marshal played a major role in positioning the work platform successfully. As Uwe Kreuzberger at the controls in the crane cab was no longer able to see the load once it had disappeared behind the concrete wall, he had to react solely using the commands supplied by Carsten Herfurth on the intercom.

Herrmann & Wittrock is part of the Wittrock Group, which operates throughout Germany. The company invested in 20 new Liebherr cranes in 2019 and 2020. Founded in 2005, Herrmann & Wittrock initially only hired out work platforms, with mobile crane hire being added to its services in 2007. Headquartered in Hof, the company now has ten branches in Bavaria, Saxony and Brandenburg.
