In July 2012, Liebherr and the Algerian company Somatel set up the production joint venture Somatel-Liebherr Spa. This joint venture produces mainly earthmoving equipment such as wheel loaders, crawler loaders and excavators bearing the Liebherr brand for the African market. The joint venture started production in 2013 and to date about 600 Liebherr devices have been assembled for the local market. In 2017, Liebherr decided to add their reachstacker LRS 545 to the existing joint venture portfolio. Thanks to this adjustment, Somatel Liebherr was already able to record the first incoming orders for Liebherr reachstackers LRS 545 in 2018. The devices are mainly intended for sale to state-owned Algerian companies but also partly to private businesses. The service and the maintenance for the reachstackers is in the hands of Liebherr Algérie, near Algiers. In this way, it is possible to guarantee short reaction times and the best possible service to the customers.
