High performance, quality and absolute reliability are crucial criteria for machines and technologies used in defence-critical and civil protection applications. Liebherr earthmoving machines meet these requirements and are ideally suited for use in defence, disaster relief and military infrastructure. Liebherr’s proven quality, combined with a high degree of vertical integration at its European sites, are key factors in this regard. At Eurosatory, the company is showcasing a machine and a technology from its extensive product portfolio: the TA 230 articulated dump truck as the carrier vehicle and the Liebherr Remote Control System (LiReCon).
In the earthmoving sector, Liebherr offers a wide range of solutions for military and security infrastructure. In addition to hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders and telescopic handlers, the company also manufactures crawler dozers and carrier vehicles, such as the TA 230 articulated dump truck, at its sites in Bischofshofen and Telfs (Austria), Colmar (France) and Kirchdorf an der Iller (Germany).
With this portfolio, Liebherr highlights the strengths of European value creation: a high degree of vertical integration enables key components to be manufactured within the group of companies, thereby guaranteeing very high quality and system integration. At the same time, customers benefit from a high-performance, closely-knit service network that ensures rapid response times and sustained operational readiness. At Eurosatory, the company is showcasing the TA 230 articulated dump truck as the carrier vehicle for the LPO 600 mobile energy storage system, as well as the teleoperation system Liebherr Remote Control System (LiReCon).
The Liebherr TA 230 articulated dump truck is a versatile carrier vehicle characterised by its robustness, powerful drive and flexible range of applications: with a payload of up to 31 tonnes, the machine is suitable for a wide variety of military superstructures as well as operations in challenging terrain, for example with engineering and logistics units, in civil defence, or for national and international authorities. The powerful drive unit, combined with the high-performance engine, ensures maximum traction on rough terrain. The robust construction, protected components and proven Liebherr technology guarantee high reliability even under extreme operating conditions.
An innovative visibility and control concept featuring generous all-round glazing, optimised cab ergonomics and intuitive controls also significantly enhances safety and manoeuvrability. This allows the operator to maintain a clear overview of the driving, working and articulation areas at all times. This is complemented by a machine design developed specifically for off-road applications, featuring high ground clearance, a well-thought-out component layout and outstanding off-road gear. This makes the TA 230 a versatile platform for transport, engineering and defence solutions.
In its function as a carrier vehicle, the TA 230 will be on display at Eurosatory, for example, in combination with the Liebherr Remote Control System (LiReCon). LiReCon enables the precise control of construction machines from a safe distance, thereby addressing the growing demands of modern operational scenarios in which the protection of operating personnel is just as crucial as high performance. For users in the government and defence sectors in particular, the technology opens up new possibilities for making operations safer, more efficient and more flexible – especially in situations where operators are exposed to high risks or direct access to the machine is not possible.
Applications range from explosive ordnance disposal and disaster relief operations to work in contaminated or hard-to-reach areas. Remote control from a protected environment significantly reduces the risk to personnel. This is made possible by the LiReCon teleoperation system, which integrates machine control, camera and sensor systems and data transmission. It enables precise and intuitive control – even without direct visual contact – thanks to high-resolution real-time video transmission and a fully equipped operator console. Visitors can experience this first-hand at the exhibition via a live setup: a demonstration at the booth will show how a crawler excavator in Colmar and a crawler dozer in Telfs is operated remotely using LiReCon.
In addition to the TA 230 and LiReCon, Liebherr offers an extensive range of earthmoving machines for security-critical applications. These include telescopic handlers, wheel loaders, hydraulic excavators and crawler dozers. These all-terrain, robust machines support engineering and logistics units, as well as disaster and civil protection organisations and can be deployed flexibly in a wide range of scenarios.
From civil protection and emergency response through to military logistics, safety-relevant operations and infrastructure projects, Liebherr telescopic handlers, for example, can be deployed flexibly thanks to their high technical performance. With lifting heights of up to 10 metres and load capacities of up to 6 tonnes, they prove their worth in applications such as rubble clearance, material handling under difficult conditions, and logistical and safety relevant tasks. Modern assistance systems, all-wheel drive and flexible attachments ensure a high level of safety, precision and efficiency – even under demanding operating conditions.
Liebherr wheel loaders offer a wide-ranging portfolio for high-performance material handling and rapid clearance work across a wide variety of scenarios. With their compact design and high tip load, the L 504 to L 508 compact loaders are particularly suited to urban applications, such as clearing rubble or creating emergency access routes. When high manoeuvrability in confined spaces is required, the L 507 to L 518 stereoloaders come into their own thanks to their combination of articulation with a steered rear axle, enabling excellent manoeuvrability. The medium-sized models, L 524 to L 546, are used for more extensive infrastructure and supply tasks. With powerful Z-bar kinematics, they secure supply routes and move large quantities of material efficiently. XPower wheel loaders, L 550 to L 586, deliver maximum performance during large-scale clearance operations, in material transport for engineering operations, and in the construction of critical infrastructure. With tip loads ranging from 3,000 to 22,000 kg, the wheel loaders cover a wide performance spectrum. On request, they can be fitted with special military equipment, developed in collaboration with external partners, which offers additional protection for both operator and machine.
The portfolio is rounded off by Liebherr crawler dozers, which have already established themselves worldwide as reliable machines in civil protection and defence. A key feature is the hydrostatic drive concept: it enables precise, infinitely variable control without gear changes, reduces wear, and ensures efficient, low-maintenance operation with high availability. Thanks to their robust construction, high efficiency and intuitive operation with modern assistance systems, the crawler dozers cover a wide range of applications. For example, in civil protection they are used for clearing rubble following natural disasters or providing support during floods and forest fires. In addition, they demonstrate their strengths in military applications and engineering operations, from the construction and maintenance of field infrastructure and camps, through terrain profiling for logistics and security purposes, to operations in hazardous areas, such as unexploded ordnance clearance.
Liebherr offers intelligent assistance systems for its earthmoving machines that provide targeted support to operators. Technologies – such as active person detection with brake assist and the Skyview 360° camera system – ensure excellent all-round visibility around the wheel loader. In disaster relief in particular, numerous emergency personnel often work in close proximity to the machines. These systems help operators maintain awareness of their immediate surroundings, issuing visual and audible warnings where necessary. This contributes to improved safety and coordination during operation. In addition, automatic functions for the kinematics ensure smooth and efficient work cycles and boost productivity.
