On 2. August, the Hiap Heng Group took delivery of its first Liebherr mobile construction crane. With the MK 88-4.1E, the company is expanding its fleet with an efficient lifting solution for construction sites with limited space. The crane combines versatility with high performance and enables fast, low-emission operations on urban construction projects.
Founded in 1983, the Hiap Heng Group has more than 40 years’ experience in the construction, infrastructure, marine, industrial and energy sectors. The fleet of the Singapore-based company comprises more than 100 large-scale machines, including mobile cranes, crawler cranes and aerial work platforms. The MK 88-4.1E marks the company’s entry into the world of mobile construction cranes – with this addition, Hiap Heng is expanding its range to include an efficient lifting solution in densely built-up urban areas.
“The construction industry is constantly evolving. Limited space in urban areas is presenting project managers with increasingly complex challenges. Our clients expect safe and cost-effective solutions. The MK 88-4.1E is a targeted addition to our service portfolio,” says Joyce Foo, CEO, Hiap Heng Group. The vertical tower of the MK 88-4.1E allows work to be carried out directly on the structure, even over obstructions. This enables wide working radii with high performance whilst requiring minimal space. Thanks to their asymmetrical outrigger configuration and small footprint, Liebherr mobile construction cranes are ideal for use in densely built-up city centres. Joyce Foo adds: “Thanks to its versatility, we will in future be able to support projects that would previously have required more complex solutions. These include, for example, lifting tasks during the construction or maintenance of office buildings, schools, hospitals and shopping centres, as well as infrastructure projects and a wide variety of installation works.” In Singapore, construction projects are increasingly being carried out in densely built-up urban areas. The MK 88-4.1E offers ideal conditions for inner-city construction sites, where conventional cranes often reach their limits.
The MK 88-4.1E also scored highly in the decision-making process thanks to its simple and intelligent operation throughout all phases of use. Transport, erection and operation can be carried out by just one person. The taxi crane is ready for use in almost no time, without the need for additional transport units. At the same time, the high lifting capacity, long reach and precise control ensure efficient workflows during demanding lifting operations. This means that, in some cases, several construction sites can even be served in a single day.
“With the MK 88-4.1E, we can support projects more cost-effectively and significantly reduce set-up times. The electric crane operation is particularly valuable to us, as it drastically reduces noise and emissions. More sustainable construction methods are becoming increasingly important in Singapore. At the same time, Liebherr’s advanced safety systems and intelligent control technologies inspire a high level of confidence among both operators and clients,” explains Joyce Foo. Thanks to its powerful electric engine, the Liebherr crane can be operated at optimum efficiency and is highly flexible, running either on an integrated generator or on site power – optionally even at 32 amps.
For Hiap Heng, the purchase of the MK 88-4.1E represents not only an expansion of the fleet, but also the start of a long-term partnership with Liebherr. “This decision underlines our long-term commitment to innovation, safety and productivity. We are investing not only in modern machinery, but also in the future of our employees and business partners. Together with Liebherr, we aim to explore new opportunities and actively support the further development of intelligent lifting solutions,” emphasises Joyce Foo.
In addition to the technology, the close collaboration with Liebherr also played an important role. For Hiap Heng, reliable customer service, technical expertise, user training and a long-term partnership are crucial factors. “We have valued Liebherr’s engineering expertise and innovative strength for many years. The quality and reliability of its cranes are recognised worldwide. Through this collaboration, we are laying the foundations to continue supporting our customers with modern and high-performance lifting solutions in the future,” reports Joyce Foo.
