Flagship for Serbia: RT trans strengthens its fleet with Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1
- LTM 1650-8.1 now RT trans' most powerful mobile crane
- Liebherr crane is characterised by high mobility and a wide range of applications
- New crane already proven in operation
The Serbian crane and heavy haulage company RT trans d.o.o. has strengthened its fleet with a Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane. It is now the company's largest crane and the second 8-axle mobile crane that RT trans has bought from Liebherr in the last three years. The increased demand for greater lifting capacity led to the decision to purchase the Liebherr 700 tonne crane. The high quality of the Liebherr cranes and the good co-operation with the local Liebherr sales and service partner were important factors in the decision.
"We decided in favour of the LTM 1650-8.1 because we are seeing an increasing demand for higher lifting capacities for crane work in Serbia and the entire region," explains Duško Tadić, co-owner and son of company founder Rajko Tadić.
High mobility and a wide range of applications
When designing the LTM 1650-8.1, Liebherr took a wide range of transport weights and axle load variants into account in order to ensure economic mobility worldwide, both for axle loads below twelve tonnes and above. "An important criterion in the decision in favour of the LTM 1650-8.1 was the high mobility of this large crane with the various options in terms of weight and axle loads. The telescopic boom can be assembled and disassembled very quickly with just a few employees," says Tadić. "The crane has a wide range of applications and we are planning to use it primarily for the construction of industrial plants, wind farms and for repair work on wind turbines."
The crane and heavy haulage company RT trans d.o.o. employs around 50 people and operates 24 cranes, 20 of which are from Liebherr. Tadić explains: "We also decided in favour of Liebherr because we have been working with the company and its local representative D.S. Inženjering for many years on a basis of trust."
Proven in use
The first job took the LTM 1650-8.1 to the Kovačica wind farm. A wind blade weighing 14 tonnes had to be replaced there. The special lifting tool itself already weighed 14 tonnes. Together with the blade, hook block and lifting gear, this resulted in a total load of 29.5 tonnes. This had to be handled with a radius of 32 metres and a hook height of 120 metres. The LTM 1650-8.1 was equipped with the T3YV2EN boom version for this purpose: 51 metre telescopic boom with Y-guying, boom extension, eccentric and 59.5 metre luffing jib.
Service technicians from Liebherr in Ehingen and from D.S. Inženjering supported the RT trans employees during the initial assembly of the crane. A Liebherr LTM 1120-4.1 mobile crane was used as an auxiliary crane. Both the set-up of the crane and the lift itself were carried out without any problems, although the assembly of the equipment was challenging due to the limited space and the soft ground on which the boom was mounted.
Crane operator Stojadin Jovanovic is full of praise for his new machine: "The LTM 1650-8.1 is excellent to work with. Although it has such a high lifting capacity and a wide range of boom options, it is very easy to set up. The quick dismantling of the telescopic boom is also very commendable."
