Seatrium Ltd. has acquired six Liebherr Ram Luffing cranes, RL 2600, for TenneT’s 2-gigawatt (GW) offshore wind transmission system in the Netherlands. Two cranes will be allocated to each of the platforms IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek Beta. They will integrate the LiMain system to support remote maintenance on unmanned platforms.
Rostock (Germany), June 2026 – With offshore wind power gaining strategic importance across Europe, reliable high-performance equipment is vital for advancing grid development. Liebherr is contributing to this progress with six RL 2600 offshore cranes destined for TenneT’s North Sea projects. The contractual partner for the maritime crane manufacturer from Rostock, Germany, is Seatrium, the largest shipyard group formed from the former Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine in Singapore.
‘We are proud to support Seatrium for the first time and to contribute our expertise to these significant offshore grid projects for TenneT. Partnering with a globally respected engineering and offshore solutions provider such as Seatrium underscores the trust placed in the quality and reliability of our Liebherr RL 2600 cranes. As offshore wind grows in significance worldwide, we are delighted that our solutions play a meaningful role in advancing a resilient and future-ready energy infrastructure,’ states Oliver Odebrecht, Sales Manager, General Purpose Offshore Cranes at Liebherr in Rostock.
The cranes of the RL series are known for their weight-optimised yet robust construction, which makes them especially suitable for offshore platforms. The RL 2600 was developed to meet the demanding conditions of offshore operations. Feedback from customers around the world played an important role in the design process, resulting in a very compact crane with a small tail radius and low overall height. Liebherr places strong emphasis on long-term reliability, using high-quality materials and components that help reduce downtime and keep maintenance needs low.
The Liebherr RL 2600 chosen for the latest projects stands out due to its sleek and space-saving design, making it a powerful option for platforms where installation space is limited. The crane can reach out to 45 metres and is built to handle lifting work up to 25 tonnes, which makes it well suited for maintenance duties and supply operations across the wind energy sector. This capability is particularly valuable for modern 2-GW converter platforms, where the crane supports the regular lifting and logistics tasks required to keep offshore power infrastructure operating reliably.
For TenneT’s project, the RL 2600 cranes will be fitted with the digital LiMain system to support maintenance on the unmanned platforms. This marks an important milestone for Liebherr, as an Asian partner has opted for LiMain for the first time. The system enables key service tasks from shore, which reduces site visits and lowers both costs and environmental impact. Its remote and partly automated functions provide a high level of operational autonomy under demanding offshore conditions. LiMain follows a modular concept, so operators can choose the level of monitoring and maintenance support that fits each platform. This flexibility helps to ensure reliable and efficient crane operation, even in rough and challenging offshore environments.
Niek Brabers, Sales Manager at Liebherr Netherlands, points out: ‘When the cranes enter service, maintenance and support will be coordinated by Liebherr Netherlands. Customers benefit from short response times and direct access to experienced technical specialists. Consistent delivery of high-quality support, together with tailored solutions, gives operators a trustworthy partner who helps safeguard uptime and performance. This approach reflects the commitment of Liebherr to long-term service, wherever the project is located. Our priority is timely, stable support that keeps equipment performing as required. We provide practical solutions and straightforward advice that customers can depend on.’
