With the installation of a Liebherr 1000 EC-H 40 Litronic and a 470 EC-B 20, complementing an existing 250 EC-B, Hungarian precast concrete manufacturer Viastein has strengthened its production logistics at its Biharkeresztes facility. The tower cranes handle all lifting operations within the plant, from heavy precast components to general material movement, significantly improving the efficiency and capacity of production.
At its production site in Biharkeresztes, Viastein has further optimised its manufacturing and storage logistics with the addition of new Liebherr tower cranes. At the end of August, a 1000 EC-H 40 Litronic and a 470 EC-B 20 were installed, expanding the company’s existing crane fleet, which already included a 250 EC-B 12. The goal was to expand outdoor storage capacity and significantly improve material flow between production, storage, and loading areas.
Viastein is one of Hungary’s leading producers of precast concrete elements, paving stones, and other concrete products. The massive components produced daily require powerful lifting equipment for transport, stacking, and loading. The three Liebherr cranes take on these essential tasks, enabling space-saving, precise, and efficient movement of building elements, optimising the overall workflow throughout the plant.
Compared with other transport systems, Liebherr tower cranes offer decisive advantages: they require minimal ground space while covering large working radii, allowing for flexible handling of heavy loads across various production zones.
The installation of the latest crane, the 1000 EC-H 40 Litronic, took place within just a few days, from 28 August to 3 September 2025, while production continued uninterrupted. Together with Viastein’s plant team, a detailed schedule was developed to ensure that manufacturing and dispatch operations were not affected.
The installation was carried out in close cooperation between Liebherr and Bayer Construct. Florian Gegier, Service Technician at Liebherr Tower Cranes, emphasised the excellent teamwork: “The assembly of the 1000 EC-H went smoothly, and the collaboration with Bayer on site was outstanding. Everything was perfectly prepared, which allowed us to erect and commission the crane quickly and safely.”
The 1000 EC-H 40 Litronic is ideally suited to Viastein’s requirements. Even with a jib length of 45 metres, the crane can lift up to 20 tonnes, making it perfect for the transport and storage of precast elements weighing up to 17 tonnes. “Our production areas are at full capacity, and we want to store concrete, not air,” the site manager joked. “With the Liebherr cranes, we can make our storage logistics significantly more efficient while saving valuable space.”
The three Liebherr tower cranes the 1000 EC-H 40, 470 EC-B 20, and 250 EC-B 12, form a high-performance trio that permanently optimises Viastein’s production processes. With their combination of lifting capacity, precision, and space efficiency, they ensure the sustainable expansion of the company’s manufacturing capacity and storage logistics.
