A step up: Schweri opts for new Liebherr LTM 1300-6.4 mobile crane

Schweri Autokranbetriebe GmbH & Co. KG has taken delivery of its first Liebherr mobile crane – an LTM 1300-6.4. The 300-tonne crane is now the most powerful crane in the Krefeld-based company’s fleet. “For us, the LTM 1300-6.4 is the logical addition to our fleet. With its lifting capacity and 90-metre telescopic boom, we can now handle jobs that were previously out of our reach,” says Leonhard Zerni, managing partner at Schweri. “Ultimately, it was the complete package that won us over: it is the right crane to replace a 250-tonne model, its technical features and the comprehensive support provided by Liebherr.”

Flexible in confined spaces

Key technical features include VarioBase® and VarioBallast®. These variable systems provide flexibility on construction sites where the space available for the outriggers and ballast is limited. The crane also features the modern LICCON3 control system. “Our main area of operation is North Rhine-Westphalia,” says Zerni. There, the new mobile crane will primarily be used for repowering wind turbines, erecting and dismantling of tower cranes, and installing precast concrete elements. With its new machine, the crane service provider responds to increasing demands and larger dimensions in its markets.

From the factory to the construction site

Even before delivery, the first job for the LTM 1300-6.4 had already been lined up before delivery: at a construction site in Dormagen, Schweri is installing precast concrete elements for a new residential development. There, the 6-axle crane is being operated there by Martin Schönwaßer. The long-serving crane operator was involved in selecting the new flagship: “It’s something special to take charge of the flagship of our own fleet. The long telescopic boom and the modern assistance systems, in particular, help us carry out even demanding lifting operations efficiently and flexibly.”

Schweri Autokranbetriebe GmbH & Co. KG has been operating for more than 40 years. The company employs 25 people and offers lifting services and crane work, as well as hiring out more than 70 aerial work platforms and telehandlers. Its crane fleet comprises 13 machines with lifting capacities ranging from 30 to 300 tonnes.
