Opportunities ahead at Conexpo

With more than 20 years at Liebherr, Kai Friedrich, Managing Director of Liebherr USA, Co., has closely witnessed how the North American construction market is evolving. From emission-neutral technologies to autonomous systems and major investments in infrastructure, Liebherr is preparing itself for the future. We spoke with Kai Friedrich about technology trends, Liebherr’s presence at Conexpo, and the company’s growth in North America.

1. How is Liebherr addressing the challenge of defossilization across such a diverse product portfolio in North America?

“Offering 12 product segments throughout North America, a one size fits all approach to product defossilization is complex. Through this realization, Liebherr has embraced a technology neutral approach to address a wide spectrum of applications and machinery,” explains Kai Friedrich. Currently, Liebherr offers multiple alternative drive options including HVO, battery-electric machines, hydrogen engines, hybrid drive, and autonomous drive systems. “We notice that market trends are evolving towards more sustainable solutions. Liebherr has been implementing initiatives to introduce and distribute a growing number of emission neutral products across its portfolio of products,” Friedrich notes. “With these offerings, Liebherr can provide an increased level in efficiency, economy, and safety for our customers in the USA while still meeting their individual requirements.”

2. What can customers expect from Liebherr at Conexpo?

At Conexpo, Liebherr will showcase a range of emission-neutral construction machines and components, as well as advanced assistant systems such as Bucket Fill Assist, Skyview 360°, and LiDia, an intuitive diagnostic software tool for servicing Liebherr machines. “It’s important to share these new innovative technologies with Liebherr’s customer base at Conexpo, so that customers can get hands-on with the current and future technologies,” says Friedrich. Additionally, Liebherr will present the D946 engine and highlight the Liebherr Reman Program, which gives a second life to used components by remanufacturing them to “same-as-new” quality, contributing to the circular economy.

3. How is Liebherr supporting its North American growth and customer service?

A major step in Liebherr’s North American growth is the construction of a new logistics warehouse in Tupelo, MS - the first major distribution center outside of Europe. This facility will enhance Liebherr’s service capabilities across the Americas by providing faster and more efficient services to customers. “We are actively broadening our service and support network across the USA to support the continued growth of Liebherr. That includes the consideration of expanding assembly and manufacturing capabilities in the US – which we have already completed in Newport News, VA,” says Friedrich. The new logistics center will play a significant role in the management and distribution of spare parts and products from various Liebherr divisions, reinforcing the company’s position as an industry leader.
