At Bauma 2025, Adanaport, a division of SANKO Holding, agreed on the acquisition of a new Liebherr LHM 550, marking a significant milestone in their container operation expansion.
Adana Port, located at the entrance of the Gulf of Iskenderun in the northeast of the Mediterranean Sea, has been a loyal Liebherr customer for years. The port, which operates under SANKO Holding, utilises a 1,297-metre finger jetty to serve various types of vessels, including container, bulk, general cargo, and project cargo.
During Bauma 2025, Adana Port agreed on the acquisition of a new Liebherr LHM 550 with a maximum capacity of 154 tonnes and equipped with two ropes, ready for container operation. This is the third LHM acquired by SANKO Group – the previous cranes include one LHM 420 and one LHM 550. This agreement is part of Adana Port’s strategic investment plan, which includes extending the quay by an additional 20 metres in width, making it a total of 40 metres wide.
SANKO Group, founded in 1904 by the Konukoğlu family, has evolved over its 120-year journey into one of Türkiye’s largest conglomerates. With operations spanning 11 different sectors, a workforce exceeding 14,000 employees and a footprint in over 100 countries through exports, SANKO Group maintains its leadership position in key industries such as textiles, renewable energy, cement and packaging within Türkiye and on the global stage.
Adana Port started its container operations in December 2024 and continues to expand its capabilities.
“This strategic investment marks a significant step in expanding our handling capabilities and enhancing operational efficiency to better meet the rising demands of our industrial and consumer-driven hinterland”, said Hasan ÇİFTÇİ, Adana Port General Manager “The LHM 550, with its advanced lifting capabilities, will contribute to faster vessel turnaround times and higher service standards for our shipping and logistics partners. In line with our customer-centric approach and commitment to sustainable growth, this addition will further strengthen Adana Port’s role as a multi-purpose gateway in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
With this new investment plan, Adana Port is set to strengthen its position as a key player in the maritime industry, ensuring it remains competitive and capable of handling diverse cargo types.
