For the first time, the Components division of the Liebherr Group participates in this year’s Commercial Vehicle Technology Symposium. The Technical University of Kaiserslautern opens its doors to international trade visitors for the fifth time in succession.
From 13th to 15th of March 2018, the conference focuses on current trends and technical developments in the commercial vehicle industry. Within the framework of the symposium, Liebherr contributes a presentation and provides information on engine development innovations for construction machines. In a keynote address, François Jaussi, head of sales for diesel engines at Liebherr Machines Bulle SA, discusses potential development paths of the off-road machinery industry from an engine manufacturer’s perspective. He examines and questions concepts such as right-sizing, hybridisation, alternative fuels and drivetrain optimisation as potential solutions in the heavy-duty segment.

A trade and vehicle show accompanies the symposium. Together with the earthmoving division, the component division does not only present new trends in diesel engine development, but also its expertise in the automation of motion sequences in mobile machinery. In this regard, the position and speed information of pistons in hydraulic cylinders plays an essential role. “Customers have been forced to compromise in all the systems currently on the market to a certain extent”, explains Alexander Bertsch from Liebherr-Elektronik GmbH. “LiView is an intelligent position transducer for hydraulic cylinders and its entirely new technological approach means that it combines all the advantages of conventional systems.”
In addition to the position and speed of the hydraulic piston, LiView will also be able to record other state variables of the cylinder or the oil circuit in future. As a consequence, LiView will provide basic information for predictive maintenance, which will enable higher efficiency.
