The PR 776 70-tonne mining dozer entered a competitive market when it was launched in 2017. The dozer has recently experienced great success, with over 100 units commissioned worldwide, and a success story to come out of Australia.

Australian Mining spoke to Griffin Coal commercial fleet manager Warren Hann, Liebherr-Australia customer support manager Gerard Fonceca, and Liebherr-Australia technical support advisor Tony Di Prima, to provide insight into this PR 776 success story.

Griffin Coal received Western Australia’s first PR 776 on a 12-month trial-to-buy basis back in August 2019, with the intent to assess the dozer based on its ability to meet agreed KPIs (key performance indicators).

The dozer not only easily met and overachieved its fuel burn, availability, and reliability targets, but received positive feedback from operators who had to get used to the different operating style of the hydrostatic drive system.

The trial demonstrated, both to Liebherr and the customer, the potential of the dozer with Griffin expanding its PR 776 fleet in the future.
