The role is responsible for managing the multi-site payroll for over 400 employees across Canada. As the subject matter expert in the area of Payroll, this role requires technical sophistication and commercial acumen to enable the function to deliver best practices and focused solutions that support the business goals, in conjunction with specialist HR functions. Please note that a preferred candidate has been identified.
Responsiblities
- Process multi-site salary and hourly payroll in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with company and government policies and regulations
- Ensure input accuracy of timesheets, using both Dayforce Time & Attendance and MMS/SMS software
- Perform basic reconciliation and auditing processes during each pay cycle
- Adminster and remit 3rd party payments (RRSP, garnishments, Health Benefits, WCB, etc)
- Conduct frequent data integrity checks of existing payroll information
- Identify and respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies as required
- Prepare payroll journal entries, cost allocations and payroll accruals
- Support reporting and analytic needs of the organization in conjunction with the LCA Finance and Management teams
- Manage payments for employees on leave and subsidies
- Communicate and resolve issues with various tax agencies as required
- Maintain complete and detailed payroll records and documentation in accordance with company policy and statutory requirements
- Advise and assist managers and supervisors on the interpretation and administration of policies, programs and best practices
- Remain current, advise on and adhere to best practices for legislation and compliance
- Co-ordinate employee onboarding and off boarding documentation related to payroll and benefits
- Validate, reconcile and complete annual and periodic payroll filings (EHT, T4, RL-1, CNESST, etc)
- Participate in process and procedures improvements for the payroll department and ensure documentation is updated regularly
- Liase with auditors during the annual audits
- Other duties may be assigned as required
Competencies
- At least 5 or more years of payroll experience
- Applicable academic degree and/or certification in Payroll Administration (or equivalent)
- PCP Payroll certification preferred
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
- Demonstrated experience using Ceridian Dayforce payroll required
- Proficient in MS Office and good knowledge of relevant software
- Outstanding organizational skills with a high degree of accuacy and great attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Self-motivated and ability to work well within a fast paced environment with strict deadlines
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Bi-lingual French and English preferred
