Person Profile

A machine safety specialist is required in the machine safety department to carry out the risk assessments process for assigned Liebherr products. The position may include occasional business travel within Ireland and overseas, the duration and location being defined by the nature of the visit. The successful candidate will report to the machine safety manager or his/her delegate.

  • Create risk assessments in accordance with the European Machinery Directive using a specialised Machine Safety software solution
  • Lead risk assessment team meetings
  • Scrutinise and apply type C and other relevant standards in the risk assessment, where applicable
  • Propose and document risk reductions for safety requirements identified, as part of the risk assessment process
  • Contribute to development of safety concepts with design departments
  • Support design departments with interpretation and application of international standards
  • Support design departments for development of Liebherr Standards and guidelines
  • Identify required safety functions for the safety related part of the control system (SRP/CS)
  • Work with electrical design to develop safety requirements specifications (SRS) for safety functions
  • Liaise with design, quality and installation department for verification of risk reductions
  • Liaise with technical documentation department to apply risk assessment outputs to instructions for use
  • Preparation of EU declaration on conformity for LCC products
  • Other duties will evolve and arise from time to time

Qualifications / Requirements / Experience

  • A recognised qualification in engineering in the fields of electrical or mechanical engineering, functional safety, or a related discipline
  • A recognised third level qualification or suitable experience in health & safety or a related discipline is desirable
  • Qualification as a Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) and/or Certified Expert in Functional Safety (CEFS) is an advantage
  • 5+ years’ experience in a regulated industry, preferably in a design/manufacturing background
  • Knowledge of applicable European Directives relating to machinery and familiarity with associated international standards
  • Strong communicator and influencer with experience of communicating at all levels within an organisation
  • Competent to coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to interpret safety requirements and specify risk reductions
  • Independence, analytical thought and assertiveness
  • Lateral thinker to achieve optimum solutions that are compliant with regulation and aligned with business goals
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Logical thinker with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Strong familiarisation with Liebherr products and their sub-assemblies is a distinct advantage
