No strangers to early mornings, the Apprentice Team from the Liebherr factory in Sunderland were offering an insight into their work at a breakfast seminar on March 24 as part of the “Brathay Apprentice Challenge”. Hosted by the Castle View Academy School, students were given an exclusive talk on apprenticeships and engineering. This one-off event was organized by the apprentices themselves and they spoke to approximately fifty students in Years 9 and 10. The “Brathay Apprentice Challenge” is supported by the National Apprenticeship Service and offers an enhanced apprenticeship, giving apprentices the chance to improve their team building, logistical, leadership and community skills.
Using a portable welding booth, the next generation of engineers were given the opportunity to try their hand at welding and the team from Liebherr offered expert guidance and advice on apprenticeships at the company. Stephanie Hogan HR Advisor from Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd. commented: “The event was a great success and the students benefited greatly from the information provided by the young team from Liebherr.“
