Amasus has equipped two vessels with three LS-C 100 ship cranes apiece, each offering a lifting capacity of up to 70 tonnes. With both vessels now in operation and the cranes fully commissioned, this milestone enables Amasus to handle wind turbine blades independently and efficiently.
Amasus has reached a major milestone in offshore wind logistics by completing the rollout of its specialised fleet. The companyâs vessels, Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon, are now fully operational with Liebherr LS-C 100 ship cranes, delivering loading and unloading without reliance on land-based lifting infrastructure. This configuration ensures maximum flexibility across ports, reduces dependency on external equipment and supports uninterrupted logistics for the growing offshore wind sector.
Developed in collaboration with Concordia Damen, and deugro Denmark, the Rotra vessels combine RoRo/LoLo design with Liebherrâs advanced crane technology. This integration allows Amasus to transport ever larger and more complex wind components efficiently across Europe and the USA. Both vessels were commissioned specifically for Siemens Gamesa, reinforcing their long-term commitment to offshore wind development.
âHaving both vessels equipped and in service means we can now offer uninterrupted blade transport across Europe and the USA,â said the management of Amasus.
Fresh from her delivery in China, the newest vessel, Rotra Horizon, arrived in European waters in September carrying wind turbine tower sections. Built at Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard, she measures 167.6 x 26 metres and is purpose-designed for the demands of the offshore wind industry.
The LS-C 100 crane design reflects Liebherrâs commitment to innovation in maritime handling. With a lifting capacity of up to 70 tonnes, its compact and maintenance-friendly structure, combined with a high boom pivot point and minimal footprint, ensures excellent operator visibility and optimal deck space utilisation â making it ideal for integration into specialised vessels like the Rotra series.
Liebherrâs global service network ensures that Amasus can rely on consistent support throughout the vesselsâ operational life. From commissioning to maintenance, Liebherrâs maritime team provides tailored solutions wherever the vessels operate.
âThis project showcases how engineering precision and customer collaboration can unlock new possibilities in maritime logisticsâ, said Gregor Levold, General Manager Sales Offshore, Ship and Port Cranes at Liebherr Maritime Cranes. âOur long-standing partnership with Amasus is built on mutual trust and shared goals. Working together on this vessel concept has been a great example of how close cooperation leads to practical and forward-looking solutions.â
With both vessels now in full operation, Amasus is positioned to meet the offshore wind sectorâs growing logistical demands â delivering large-scale components with greater autonomy, efficiency and speed than ever before.
