Corporate Responsibility
As a global family-run company, Liebherr takes its responsibilities towards its employees, society and the environment very seriously. The family shareholders are always mindful of this. When making major decisions, they consider its lasting impact on success and the long-term company development, placing importance on stability and dependability.
We see sustainability as an all-embracing concept that includes economic, environmental and social factors. We aim to improve the quality of life of present and future generations through innovative solutions, technological progress and responsible action.
Corporate Responsibility Strategy
Through its Corporate Responsibility Strategy, the Liebherr Group aims to be an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable company, providing innovative solutions and improving the quality of life for present and future generations. The framework for Liebherr’s commitment to sustainable development and the respect of human rights is set out by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The content framework for this is provided by four central fields of action: products and services, environment and energy, employees and society, and sustainable management. For each of these fields of action, sub-topics have been defined. These serve as guidelines for establishing the individual Corporate Responsibility Strategies of Liebherr’s various product segments and companies.
In future, each of the four fields of action described above will have concrete, group-wide sustainability targets, key performance indicators and measures, which are currently being worked out and defined one by one across the disciplines. This includes, for instance, reducing pollutant emissions, economical use of resources, ensuring stable and sustainable value chains or promoting equal opportunities and diversity.
Fields of action of the Corporate Responsibility Strategy
We enable our customers to bring economic benefit in line with sustainability through high-quality, innovative and valuable products and services.
In concrete terms, this means:
- Reduction of pollutants and harmful substances, especially greenhouse gas emissions
- Maintenance and improvement of product safety
- Maintenance and improvement of service and product quality
Sustainability reporting
The Group is currently working intensively on preparing for future, comprehensive sustainability reporting at Group level. This includes establishing and introducing the corresponding processes and tools as well as integrating them in the Group’s existing IT infrastructure. In accordance with the requirements of the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), it also includes implementing the first double materiality assessment, which was completed in spring 2024. This directive stipulates that companies must in future create comprehensive sustainability reports that cover the key topics and their impacts from an internal and external perspective: the impacts of the business activity on people, the environment and society as well as external aspects that could influence the financial performance of a company. Accordingly, 16 key topics were identified, on which Liebherr will report in future via numerous different communication channels. This should serve to highlight special projects and challenges and create even greater transparency.
