Small batch sizes and a wide range of gear types: Terhaerst Maschinenfabrik GmbH in Neunkirchen near Nuremberg has invested in an LC 700 M gear hobbing machine from Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH. The new machine replaces several older units and allows the company to manufacture a broad spectrum of workpieces with significantly shorter processing times.

At Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH, apprentices from multiple disciplines jointly designed and built an interactive exhibit for events and training fairs – based on a classic arcade grabber machine.

Gear cutting machines generate vast amounts of valuable data, which can provide users with a key to better process understanding, higher quality and targeted optimization. In practice, however, these potentials often remain untapped: Data is scattered, difficult to access and often not linked in a meaningful way. The Liebherr Data Suite combines a range of integrated software tools into a comprehensive system designed for targeted data usage.

The line runs from bin picking at the start, through several machining stations including gear hobbing, all the way to automatic unloading of finished parts. The result is higher productivity, stable processes, and maximum flexibility.

Production capacity expanded with new plant
Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has relocated its Chinese production site to new premises in the Yongchuan district of the Chongqing Free Trade Zone, more than doubling its production area in the process. The new site offers ideal conditions for expanding the production of gear hobbing, generating gear grinding, and gear skiving machines for the Chinese market from 2026 onwards.

Efficient solutions for sustainable battery recycling and the circular economy
Electric mobility is on the rise – and with it, the need for efficient solutions for the recycling and reprocessing of high-voltage batteries. Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has developed LHDismantle, an industrial-grade system for the automated disassembly of high-voltage batteries. Based on this foundation, the company offers solutions ranging from automated unscrewing processes to modular and scalable turnkey systems for disassembly and unloading.

As part of the latest machine platform for large gears, the LGP 2000 enables profile grinding across a broad range of applications – from single components to series production. An additional grinding spindle and a double dresser for simultaneous dressing can almost halve machining times.

Pallet handling for heavy parts in small batch sizes increases productivity at Köppern
Manufacturing of extremely heavy individual parts in small batch sizes is beyond the limits of traditional automation. Hattingen-based company Köppern, which specializes in high-pressure roller presses, restructured its production process to include two Liebherr pallet handling systems, shortened processing times, and significantly increased machine utilization.

LHProcessMonitoring software with high-frequency sensor system
Unwanted noises in the drivetrain are often caused during the manufacturing process: In e-mobility in particular, the smallest errors on the gear surface have a significant impact on subsequent NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) characteristics. A new high-frequency sensor system, LHProcessMonitoring, enables even finer measurements and detects even the smallest process deviations at an early stage.

A modern machine concept for efficient rotor machining
Rotors are used in a wide range of applications – and their importance is growing. At the same time, they are demanding components that require the utmost stability and precision. In the past, they had to be made using special equipment, but now they can also be produced on standard hobbing machines such as the LC 500.

Research project on energy-optimized production control
With a new photovoltaic system and the PrONergy research project, Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH is working to intelligently integrate production and energy supply.

Gear technology and automation move closer together
The Tech Center and the Machine Training Center (MTC) of Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH have moved to new premises near the main plant in Kempten. The new site brings automation development and testing together with gear technology training under one roof, creating close links between automation, gear technology and production.
