Liebherr is showcasing its complete wheel loader portfolio for North America at Conexpo 2026. The mid‑sized models are designed for demanding applications in industries such as scrap handling, waste management and recycling, and timber handling. The XPower large wheel loaders combine performance, fuel efficiency, and operator comfort in a single machine concept; besides industrial applications, these machines usually work in quarries and gravel pits. At the Liebherr booth, visitors can explore this full product range and learn more about the company’s intelligent assistance systems, which support both safety and productivity in day‑to‑day operations.

Las Vegas, NV (USA), March 3, 2026 – As a representative of Liebherr’s mid sized wheel loader series, the L 546 will be presented in a live demo show. The machine is equipped with active personnel detection with brake assistant and the Skyview 360° camera system, both of which identify potential hazards early and warn the operator through visual and acoustic signals. At the booth itself, visitors can examine two XPower wheel loaders as static exhibits: the L 550 XPower with industrial kinematics and the L 586 XPower with Z kinematics. The latter model also represents Liebherr’s largest wheel loader. In addition, visitors can get an overview of Liebherr's assistance systems in the technology pavilion.

Mid-sized wheel loaders: Performance meets reliability

Liebherr’s mid sized wheel loaders offer strong tipping loads, dynamic working movements and robust durability, making them well suited for demanding tasks in a variety of sectors. Their reinforced steel structures on the front section and lift arms, combined with large hydraulic cylinders and powerful working pumps, enable fast cycle times and reliable performance — even when working with heavy attachments such as high dump buckets or log grapples. The modern design supports excellent visibility through an optimized engine hood, while the comfortable cab and intuitive controls enhance the operator experience. Intelligent assistance systems can be integrated to further increase safety and operating efficiency.

To address specific application requirements, Liebherr offers numerous lift arm variants. The optional high lift arms provide extended reach for loading at greater heights, while visibility optimized quick couplers facilitate fast and reliable attachment changes. The fully automatic quick-coupler system “Solidlink” allows operators to switch between mechanical and hydraulic attachments directly from the cab, reducing downtime and improving workplace safety by eliminating manual coupling processes.

XPower drive: Maximum durability and efficiency

Liebherr’s XPower wheel loaders are engineered for tough environments and have established themselves as leaders in fuel efficiency, robustness, and performance. Since their debut in 2016, the machines have been continuously developed further. Liebherr has now delivered over 10,000 XPower wheel loaders, which underlines the success of the series. At the heart of each machine is the power split travel drive, which combines hydrostatic and mechanical drive components. The hydrostatic drive is ideal for short loading cycles and material uptake, while the mechanical drive excels over long travel distances and on gradients. The combination of these two drive types ensures consistently high efficiency and significantly reduced fuel consumption across varying applications.

The two XPower exhibits featured at Conexpo highlight different lift arm configurations tailored to specific tasks. The L 550 XPower wheel loader with industrial kinematics is designed for demanding recycling applications and heavy attachments, while the L 586 XPower wheel loader with Z kinematics offers strong breakout forces and rapid loading cycles, improving productivity at all kinds of loading operations. Beyond power and efficiency, the XPower series also places great importance on operator comfort. The spacious cab features an ergonomic design, practical storage solutions, and an adjustable display that allows operators to tailor the working environment to their needs.

Assistance systems for wheel loaders: Increasing safety and comfort

Liebherr develops its intelligent assistance systems in house and integrates them directly into the machine control architecture. These technologies include the active personnel detection with brake assistant, which monitors the area behind the machine and uses sensors and artificial intelligence to distinguish between people and objects. This reduces false alerts and ensures that operators are warned only in critical situations. When a potential hazard is detected, the brake assistant automatically slows the machine, shortening stopping distances by several feet and lowering the risk of accidents.

Another key safety feature is the Skyview 360° camera system, which provides a complete overview of the machine’s surroundings, helping operators identify hazards early and avoid collisions. Additional technologies – such as automatic bucket functions that speed up loading cycles, and the Liebherr weighing system with Truck Payload Assist for more accurate bucket filling – further streamline daily operations and improve overall efficiency. Together, these systems contribute to safer, more reliable and more productive work across the Liebherr wheel loader fleet.
