Liebherr Crane Planner 2.0: How digital planning minimises risks and maximises efficiency
The London skyline is characterised by narrow streets and towering buildings – a real challenge for any crane operation.

The LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane in the narrow street.
This is exactly where the Liebherr Crane Planner 2.0 proved its strengths: when dismantling a tower crane between two closely spaced high-rise buildings, the team from Select Plant Hire Co Ltd relied on Liebherr’s innovative lift planning software.
Andrew Lloyd, Lead Lifting Engineer at Select Plant Hire, reports: “Ben Garnett, our Principal Engineer for Tower Cranes, carried out the initial checks and determined that the operation was basically feasible. Using Crane Planner 2.0, I was then able to simulate in detail how the LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane would dismantle the tower crane – in particular, lifting the counterweight between the jib and the buildings.”

The digital planning showed that it would be tight, with only a few centimetres of clearance between the mobile crane’s ballast and the building façade in some places. However, the precise 3D simulations in Crane Planner 2.0 enabled the team to be able to run through all the critical lifting operations in advance and minimise risks.
“It was the technological advancements of the Liebherr planning software that made this complex job possible,” says Lloyd.

Digital planning tools such as the Liebherr Crane Planner 2.0 are indispensable today for enabling safe and efficient crane operations even under the most difficult conditions. They give planners and technicians the confidence to successfully implement complex projects – with the utmost precision.
