Liebherr-Verzahntechnik strengthens its presence in China
Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has relocated its Chinese production site to new premises in the Yongchuan district of the Chongqing Free Trade Zone, more than doubling its production area in the process. The new site offers ideal conditions for expanding the production of gear hobbing, generating gear grinding, and gear skiving machines for the Chinese market from 2026 onwards.
With the new premises, Liebherr is strengthening its presence in China and improving its assembly, logistics and sales processes. The buildings were designed and constructed on the initiative of the local government and the Yongchuan Comprehensive Bonded Zone (YCBZ) in accordance with Liebherr‘s technical and organizational requirements. YCBZ owns the premises, while Liebherr uses the site on the basis of a long-term lease agreement.
Buildings in line with Liebherr standards
The site comprises a temperature-controlled assembly hall, a separate cold storage hall for incoming goods and dispatch, spacious storage areas and modern office areas. A dedicated technology and training center and an on site showroom support hands on training and machine demonstrations. During the building’s design phase, additional sustainability requirements were incorporated, with a particular focus on thermal insulation and the insulation of walls, windows and doors. Production has been running at the new plant since April 2025. Currently, 35 employees work at the site, 20 of whom are involved in assembly – with demand for personnel continuing to rise.
Market proximity as a key driver of success
In Yongchuan, gear hobbing and generating gear grinding machine are assembled for the Chinese market. “We have expanded our portfolio: in addition to gear hobbing machines for workpiece diameters of up to two meters, we now also manufacture gear skiving machines here,” explains David Feng, head of gear cutting machines & automation in china. Assembly, commissioning and quality acceptance take place on site – according to the same standards as at the headquarters in Kempten. Regular professional dialogue and ongoing training help maintain a high level of quality.

Grand opening ceremony
The official opening ceremony took place on 9 September 2025. Around 250 guests attended, including numerous customers as well as representatives of the regional government. Patricia Rüf, member of the Liebherr administrative board and representative of the shareholder family, highlighted the importance of the site for the Group by attending the event.
A reliable basis for further development
General manager Manfred Kaut concludes: “The close and collaborative cooperation and support provided by the Yongchuan Comprehensive Bonded Zone form a reliable foundation for the continued development of our site. At the same time, we are continuously advancing additional sustainability and efficiency measures – aligned with Central European standards and focused on long term growth.”
