Small batch sizes and a wide range of gear types: Terhaerst Maschinenfabrik GmbH in Neunkirchen near Nuremberg has invested in an LC 700 M gear hobbing machine from Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH. The new machine replaces several older units and allows the company to manufacture a broad spectrum of workpieces with significantly shorter processing times.

At Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH, apprentices from multiple disciplines jointly designed and built an interactive exhibit for events and training fairs – based on a classic arcade grabber machine.

Gear cutting machines generate vast amounts of valuable data, which can provide users with a key to better process understanding, higher quality and targeted optimization. In practice, however, these potentials often remain untapped: Data is scattered, difficult to access and often not linked in a meaningful way. The Liebherr Data Suite combines a range of integrated software tools into a comprehensive system designed for targeted data usage.

The line runs from bin picking at the start, through several machining stations including gear hobbing, all the way to automatic unloading of finished parts. The result is higher productivity, stable processes, and maximum flexibility.

As part of the latest machine platform for large gears, the LGP 2000 enables profile grinding across a broad range of applications – from single components to series production. An additional grinding spindle and a double dresser for simultaneous dressing can almost halve machining times.

More than just a technology supplier: Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH
The robotics market is developing rapidly – but it is currently difficult to predict with any certainty exactly where it is heading. Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has gained expertise and experience from numerous completed projects involving various robotic drive systems. Dr Oliver Winkel, Head of Application Engineering, speaks with product managers Martin Schwarzmann and Laurenz Müller about what makes the company a strong development partner for the robotics industry.

Profile modifications in generating grinding without additional dressing tools
In practice, profile modifications on gears often mean additional dressing tools, extra costs, and longer lead times. Processes such as line dressing are flexible, but time-consuming and only marginally cost-effective in series production. With DIP (dresser-independent profile modifications), Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has developed a generating grinding method that, for the first time, allows for profile modification during dressing using a profile dressing roll, thereby combining flexibility with short dressing times.

Production capacity expanded with new plant
Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has relocated its Chinese production site to new premises in the Yongchuan district of the Chongqing Free Trade Zone, more than doubling its production area in the process. The new site offers ideal conditions for expanding the production of gear hobbing, generating gear grinding, and gear skiving machines for the Chinese market from 2026 onwards.

Advancements in waviness analysis
Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH continues to advance waviness analysis in gear metrology, with a focus on powerful evaluation capabilities and ease of use.

SkiveFinishing® for industrial applications
With SkiveFinishing®, Liebherr has developed a process that sets new standards in the hard finishing of internal gears. Following successful proof of technological feasibility, the focus is now firmly on industrial deployment. The aim is to develop a robust, cost-efficient manufacturing process that combines the highest quality standards with maximum productivity.
