Press releases | 02. 09. 2026
At this year’s steinexpo, the international demonstration trade fair for the raw materials and construction materials industry, Liebherr will showcase two high-performance XPower wheel loaders. Designed for demanding quarrying applications, these robust machines combine impressive performance, durability, operator comfort and fuel efficiency. At the heart of every XPower wheel loader is Liebherr’s proven power-split travel drive, which intelligently combines the advantages of hydrostatic and mechanical drive technologies. Together with a visibility-optimised cab, ergonomic operating concept and advanced assistance systems, the XPower range delivers greater safety, efficiency and productivity on site.
As a special highlight for trade fair visitors, Liebherr is showcasing the L 580 XPower wheel loader with a rock bucket in a live demonstration taking place several times a day, during which the wheel loader demonstrates its high performance in action. An L 580 XPower is also on display at the Liebherr stand. Both exhibits are equipped with several wheel loader assistance systems that ensure additional efficiency, comfort and safety in quarrying operations – including, for example, the Liebherr weighing system with ‘Truck Payload Assist’, the adaptive working lighting and the active personnel detection system with brake assist.
Both XPower wheel loaders on display at the trade fair come as standard with a power-split travel drive. This automatically and continuously combines the advantages of hydrostatic and mechanical drive systems in a single machine – thereby ensuring maximum performance and efficiency across all operating conditions. The hydrostatic drive is the most efficient type of drive for short loading operations, whilst the mechanical drive is the most powerful and economical over long distances and when driving uphill. XPower thus offers the highest efficiency during material collection and transport, as well as optimum acceleration and maximum power for all loading cycles – even over long distances in the quarry.
As well as their efficient drive technology, the XPower wheel loaders also impress with their high material-handling capacity. The powerful Z-kinematics ensure high torque in the lower part of the lift arms, thereby enabling the bucket to be filled quickly and easily. This is a particular advantage when handling heavy rock materials in quarries. Low-wear, robust Liebherr components and a well-engineered design ensure reliable operation of the XPower wheel loaders – even under demanding conditions or during continuous shift operation. For loading blasted rock, the L 580 XPower featured in the demo show is equipped with a robust rock bucket and tyre protection chains from pewag. The rock bucket is specially designed for handling and transporting coarse and heavy rock materials and supports high material handling rates in the quarry.
To enhance productivity, safety and comfort in day-to-day operations, Liebherr offers several intelligent assistance systems as optional extras for its wheel loaders. All systems have been developed by Liebherr and are therefore fully integrated into the machine’s control system. The L 580 XPower wheel loader, which visitors will see in the demonstration show, is equipped, amongst other features, with the Liebherr weighing system featuring ‘Truck Payload Assist’. The system assists operators when loading lorries and tippers by calculating the optimum bucket fill and the required number of loading cycles. This enables vehicles to be loaded precisely without the need for additional checks or reweighing. This reduces downtime, makes the operators’ work easier and contributes to efficient operation that minimises wear and tear on the machine.
In addition, the demonstration model is fitted with adaptive working lighting. This intelligent system automatically adjusts to the position of the lift arms, the working equipment and the wheel loader’s articulation angle. This reduces glare and minimises shadows. Particularly at dusk, during night work or in continuous operation, the system ensures that the working area is illuminated as required. The equipment is complemented by an integrated tyre pressure monitoring system. Sensors on the tyre valves detect pressure losses or overheating at an early stage and display corresponding warnings directly on the cab display. This enables operators to react quickly and prevent potential damage.
From the wide range of optional assistance systems, the L 580 XPower on display at the stand features active personnel detection with brake assist. This helps operators to avoid collisions with obstacles or pedestrians. To do this, the system monitors the rear area of the wheel loader and warns of hazards via an audible alert and a visual symbol on the display. As soon as the sensors detect a warning signal, the brake assist automatically reduces the wheel loader’s speed. This eliminates the need for human reaction time compared to conventional braking. The stopping distance is reduced by several metres, which lowers the frequency and severity of potential accidents and enhances safety in the quarry.
These machines also impress in terms of ease of operation during demanding mining applications. The ergonomically designed cab and the intuitive operating concept of the XPower wheel loaders noticeably reduce the strain on operators – particularly during long shifts and on uneven ground – and ensure comfortable, fatigue-free working. The high proportion of glazing in the cab, together with the bonnet’s design optimised for visibility, provides an unobstructed view in all directions. With numerous equipment options, the cab can be configured to suit individual needs. One example of this is the joystick steering, which allows the wheel loader to be steered intuitively with one hand. This ensures comfortable operation, particularly during tasks involving frequent steering manoeuvres, as it eliminates the need for intensive turning of the steering wheel. The cab is available in the ‘Joystick only’ version without a steering wheel. It offers particularly generous space and improved visibility of the lift arms and attachment, as both the steering wheel and the steering column have been removed.
