When did you join Liebherr?
I joined Liebherr on a student contract during the summer of second year of my college course. I then moved into the Liebherr Graduate Programme.
What attracted you to apply to the Liebherr Graduate Programme?
I was attracted to the Liebherr Graduate Programme because I was interested in automation and read about Liebherr’s plans to fully automate their cranes. There is no other company in Ireland with the opportunities to get so much hands on experience of a fully automated system of this scale.
How have you progressed in your role since you joined Liebherr?
Every day I can see the real examples of how my work is implemented across the world. The projects I am part of are expanding to cover more and more aspects of the company’s future goals and I have been given more responsibilities and freedom to achieve these goals i.e. remote SCADA development and automation software updates. The training programme has really helped me progress in the areas that I’m interested in.
Describe a typical day for you?
I work on both development of new projects and offer customer support to container terminals across the world. Every day is different and full of challenges. I remotely connect to container terminals from New-York to Russia, giving support and training for Liebherr SCADA systems and adjusting PLC code based on customer requirements. I contact suppliers, test new systems, design new system layouts and travel to sites abroad.
How would you describe Liebherr as an organisation?
Liebherr is a brilliant place to work and is very well respected both locally and internationally. Liebherr is becoming the leading specialist for automated solutions in the container terminals industry. The training program and hands on experience plus positive attitude can’t be matched anywhere else.
What is your favourite part of your job?
I love the high-energy working environment and the variety in each day. My opinions are listened to and respected. In my development role I am able to experiment and take calculated risks to find the best technical solutions for our automation goals.
What motivates you?
My main motivation is a sense of pride not just in my work, but also in the company’s success and the buzz I get off the high-energy working environment. I don’t have to wait for months to see the results of my work. Every day I see the results and get feedback from our customers.

There is a minimum requirement of a 2:1 Degree (Level 7 or 8 NFQ). If you hold a 2:2 in an Honours Degree and a 2:1 in a Postgraduate qualification (Level 9 NFQ) then your application will also be accepted.
