Liebherr își extinde gama de motoare diesel în segmentul de putere medie. Noul motor cu 6 cilindri în linie, cu un interval de performanță planificat între 450 și 620 kW va fi cel mai puternic motor în linie produs de Liebherr. Cu o cilindree de 18 litri, se află între motorul diesel D9508 -V8 de 16,2 litri și motorul diesel D9512 -V12 de 24,2 litri. Astfel, noul motor este o completare perfectă a portofoliului, care în prezent include 10 modele diferite în linie și în V, cu o putere utilă maximă ce variază între 200 kW și 4,5 MW.
Ca toate motoarele diesel Liebherr, noul D976 va fi de asemenea perfect echipat pentru toate cerințele aplicațiilor de teren, fiind astfel potrivit atât pentru utilaje de construcție și macarale, echipamente agricole și forestiere, precum și vehicule speciale. Designul are la bază componente modulare de motor testate și verificate. De exemplu, acest motor include sistemul de injecție cu rampă comună Liebherr CRS 11.2, precum și unitatea de control a motorului de la Liebherr. Sistemul de post-tratare a gazelor de evacuare va avea un design modular, ceea ce va permite adoptarea de soluții personalizate în funcție de reglementările fiecărei piețe, de la cele în care nu există reglementări, până la cele care aplică standardele Stage III A/Tier4f, China IV și Stage V.
