3 exciting facts about Liebherr-Electronics and Drives GmbH in Lindau

The Liebherr Group offers a broad product portfolio. Many of its products, however, share a common foundation: electrical drive systems, control technology and electronics. These are developed and manufactured by Liebherr-Electronics and Drives GmbH at two locations in Germany. The product range is manufactured in Germany and is used worldwide in Liebherr machines as well as by external customers. Here are three facts about the Liebherr-Electronics and Drives site in Lindau.

Where variety takes shape

More than 1,000 end devices leave the Lindau facility every day. These include components and modules for data transmission and networking. They are used worldwide in Liebherr machines as well as by external customers in sectors such as agriculture, forestry and aerospace. Production in Lindau follows the high-mix, low-volume principle, a manufacturing approach in which a wide variety of products are produced in small quantities. This increases flexibility and enables Liebherr-Electronics and Drives GmbH to respond to specific customer requirements and changing demands placed on machines and their electronic systems.

Where automation is key

Entering the production halls of Liebherr-Electronics and Drives GmbH in Lindau, visitors encounter not only autonomous transport robots but also further technological highlights such as a fully automated assembly station. This station is the result of in-house expertise. It was fully designed, modularised and implemented by the company’s own employees. All components, from mechanics and electrics through to software, were developed through the collaboration of a local project team. Today, the assembly station independently and precisely assembles electronic components, combining digitalisation with future-oriented workplaces.

Where products are tested to the limit

The requirements placed on electronics from Lindau vary depending on the application. Customers use their machines worldwide under a wide range of conditions. Whether exposed to extreme heat, salty air or strong vibrations, the electronic components must perform reliably. At the company’s own test centre in Lindau, employees ensure that these requirements are met. Test specimens undergo a range of procedures depending on their future field of application. For example, power electronics for offshore cranes must successfully pass testing in a salt spray chamber.
